Explaining much/many - ESL

    I know a German student of English that is having trouble using much and many. A teacher told her that when something can be counted, use many. If it can't be counted, use much. But she still doesn't know when to use which one.... anything I can do to help her understand the difference--- or choose a different word altogether?? Thanks.
