Ok, well, I start in the fourth grade classroom as a long-term sub on Monday and I'm really starting to get excited! I was hired over a month ago, but now that it's so close, I'm really starting to get the butterflies in my stomach. I'm going to be with the regular classroom teacher for at least the first week (if not for 2 weeks) but I just can't wait to get into the classroom. I can't wait to come on here Monday afternoon and tell you all the stories of what happened during the day. haha
Alright, I just wanted to let you know how excited I am about finally starting to feel like a "new teacher!"

How nice that you get to be with the regular classroom teacher for a week or two! That should make the transition much easier for you!

I had planned on going in early to spend some time in the class before she went on maternity leave anyway, but the principal said he wanted me there with her so that I could get used to the class and the school. It also works out well because I'm only going to be there for about 4 months, so the teacher will be coming back from maternity leave in March. If I was just going to take over for the rest of the year it may be different, but since she'll be back she and I have a lot of communicating to do! :)

Have you two figured out how you are going to do your communication - phone calls, emails?

We've been communicating through email since mid-October so I think that may be how it continues.

Email messages should work well for you and the teacher! It would be an easy way to let her check up on things from her home - when she has time (once her baby is home, keeping her busy).

That sounds like a wonderful setup, Beth, and it is super that you have already established a working relationship with the teacher. Hope Monday goes wonderfully! You will feel better once you 'connect' with a few of the students.

    Beth,
I know it is going to go well for you. Do you think you will get the other LTS position when that one finishes?

As far as I know, they're planning on putting me into the fifth grade long-term sub position once the fourth grade teacher comes back. The superintendent said that I"m going to be the "super sub" for the rest of the year! haha I just don't know how definite it is yet, though.

I'm sure you will get it. Just work your bottom off and show them how great you are! Hey maybe next year you will be able to get a job there.

Good luck Beth!! I'm so excited for you!!

I did my first job as a maternity leave sub and I had a similiar setup...I was in the classroom with Katie before she left. It was great. By the time she had the baby (her water broke in the classroom...what an interesting situation that was!), I was teaching full time and she was just resting in the back of the classroom. The only difference is she didn't come back until the following year.

But Katie is one of my closest friends now. We've stayed in touch since I left Woodstown 2 years ago...we have lunch plans for over Christmas break:)

Hey Beth, did you ever have the Parent Meet and Greet? I start on Dec. 5th, too. I haven't even gone in the classroom yet and I am petrified.
Well, I'm glad you will be able to get a feel or everything before the teacher leaves. It really does help. Good Luck

I wasn't able to meet the parents, unfortunately. I start tomorrow and I'm practically crawling out of my skin right now! lol

    You'll do great!!
I'm sure you'll have a few in the class that will guide you as far as how things are done. They love to help!!

I'm dressed and ready to go. Just sitting around waiting for a few more minutes so that I don't get there too early.
