I am going to do a lesson on situational irony, dramatic irony, and verbal irony. I want to show some short video clips that incorporate these different types of irony. Any suggestions?

Show a clip from Julius Caesar. Mark Antony's "Brutus is an honorable man" speech is a good example of verbal irony, because there is a disconnect between the language used and the message delivered.

I adore the Oatmeal, too. I am still trying to decide if I can get away with their spelling poster in my classroom. "The word definitely does not have an A. If you spell definitely with an A, you are definitely an A-hole." lol.

http://www.thedailyshow.com/videos/tag/irony Don't know if this would be school appropriate either. lol

    Monty Pythyon?
    Jon Stewart?
    Spongebob Squarepants?

You'd have to screen these carefully and pull out the appropriate bits, of course.

Nothing in that song is ironic. Just bad timing and bad luck.

Which just makes the song all the more ironic, right? LOL. A song about irony that isn't ironic... :) That's what I always tell the kids, anyway.
