I've never been to a pawn shop before (they always struck my as a little sketchy...) but I pass one on my way to work. I always wonder what the prices on TV's are like. Can you save a lot by going to a pawn store? My TV works fine but the speakers are...eh. They sound fuzzy, I'd like to upgrade.

I have been in a few pawn shops looking for random odds and ends over the years. It seems like most of the electronics in pawn shops are outdated and overpriced.

Too bad about being overpriced. I'd be fine with something a bit older. I don't watch much TV (don't even have cable) but I do like to use my Roku to stream music from Pandora.

I don't mean to discourage you. It's definitely worth checking out what's at the shops in your area if you're interested. Who knows what you might find? The nice thing about pawn shops and secondhand stores is that they always have different stuff every time you go.

I just remember a few years back when I was looking for a DVD player to keep in my classroom because the one I had was unreliable. I had expectations of finding DVD players for $20 or something, but that definitely didn't happen. Instead I saw lots of low quality DVD players for $75-100, as much as or more than what they cost when they're new.

You have to be willing to negotiate.
A lot of times the prices are way too high.

I have a friend who buys all of her jewelry at a pawn shop. ??

My hubby bought some tools at the pawn shop for the renovation on our cabin. He got them for less than 1/2 of new and worked great.

TV's are so cheap now its simply couldn't be worth it. Flat screens have a limited life as it is. Why start out with one that's already used when you can get a new 32 inch on sale for 249.99 and regularly for around 300.00?
