I am a P.E. teacher and will be getting evaluated on a third grade class bowling lesson. Would like ideas on how to incorporate common core/ or anything cross curricular into a bowling lesson. Thanks!
Right... do whatever you would do if you were not being observed. I was observed on Friday. It was the exact same lesson I would have given had it just been myself and the kids in the room. I'm guessing you won't be in an actual bowling alley?? Do you have any of the little kid bowling toys you could use as a demo?? Could you incorporate some math into keeping score? Or into explaining how a "Perfect game" translates to 300 points?
Our school district has addendums for p.e. And specials teachers precisely for evaluations using common core. Does your district have something like this?
pre-roll predictions and post-roll evaluations? fractions... Try some higher order thinking questions (what would have happened if... How could that have been done differently... etc.). But I do agree - don't put on a dog & pony show - first, it's fake and it shows, and second, the kiddos will be lost - do what you do, and do it well!
Don't want to sound negative but yes we have addendums for P.E. but we also have administrators that haven't always taken into considerations that a P.E. class is just going to look different than a Math or English class Plus the addendums are actually sort of vague.
We have super cute lanes and pins...I'm thinking of having the students pretend they are in an actual bowling alley by explaining that you have to pay, have the correct shoes (I'll check to see if they have tennis shoes on) and then they'll receive a lane assignment. As an entry ticket I'll explain that it costs x amount of dollars to bowl. I'll give each student fake money or a ticket with a numerical amount on it and have them tell me how much change they would get back from the ticket counter. Does this sound like too much? Figured it'd be integrating math
