I recently just took over a p.e. position in the middle of
the year. And this is my first teaching position. The old
teacher had a giant cupboard of equipment. However, when I
went the first day of class, I noticed almost all of it was
gone. I asked the principal about this and she said that
most of it was the instructor's. She did say that she would
buy new equipment if I gave her a list of things I needed.

I have no idea where to begin. What should I ask for?? What
kind things do I need to have?

My old school got catalogs from a gym equipment company. I'm not sure what the name was, but the P.E teachers ordered a lot from there. I would try to find something like that you could look through.

As far as what to order, I would first get basics that you will definitely need and use over and over. I am not a P.E teacher, but the first things that pop into my head are various sizes of balls, cones, hula hoops, goals, jerseys, etc. Maybe your principal can tell you what the old teacher used a lot too.

Here are a few of the places I get catalogs from. I have many more than this, but I'm posting from home and that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I have most recently ordered from Palos. I have no particular loyalty to any of them. I factor in price, shipping, etc. and go from there. I've ordered from all of these and more over the years.

I tried to give you direct links, but I'm a new member and I'm not allowed to post links yet. A quick google search will point you to their online catalogs.

    PE Equipment

Gopher is a great resource to use for ordering equipment. They have a multitude of equipment to choose from. I would start out with the basics such as cones, jerseys, hula hoops, basketballs, rackets, and goals to name a few. However, it depends on what activities you want to teach as well. Make a list of your lessons and then write down the equipment that you would need to have for that lesson.
