It is raining again here in Oklahoma. We have set record rain highs this month. Considering that we have been in draught conditions for the last few years we needed it, but the floods are out of control. I love rainy days, but we are scheduled for five of the next seven to be raining. Not light rain either. My lawn looks like a wild field with a new river flowing through it. Last night we had to go to the cellar twice. There were three tornadoes within five miles of my house. Last week we had an earthquake. So between the floods, earthquakes, and tornadoes; I need a break.
We haven't had a nice rain in a while ( although we are suppose to). I hate when it rains days in end. Tornadoes yuck! Luckily we haven't had any severe weather *knocks on wood*!!! Earthquake not too long ago! Lol.
I just read that there are 33 current flood warnings for the state of Oklahoma. We have had over 18 inches of rain for the state and more in some areas. My garage currently has an inch of rain in it.
I am not complaining. We were hit by a tornado three years ago and it messed up our summer. This year we have had a roof leak (because of wind) and minor flooding. I can handle both. Last night there were three tornadoes less than 5 miles around each side of my home. I can clean water out, but cleaning up after tornadoes is impossible. We needed the rain, but not all at once. Good news is that the draught is officially over in 80% of the state.
We had this weird storm come up one night s couple yes ago. We were under storm warning. It began to hail so hard I said everyone to basement. It left holes in our siding. Some neighbors got new roofs! It was crazy & scary! It was only a small section around us!
We've had rain/sprinkling off & on too a little this week. It wil be even cooler then when I go to San Francisco the 1st wk of June! It says it will be around 70 there by then.
It's rained non-stop in Houston for practically three weeks. The yard looks great, but the weeds in the garden are scary!
A lot of that Oklahoma rain heads north to Kansas. We are in a similar situation. We have wheat down and drowning; that is a huge concern for farmers. The flood warnings never seem to end, one after the other.
I know, we are praying the wheat doesn't bloom. The tornadoes damaged a lot of the hay and wheat. The wheat looks great, but you can't harvest when you can't get in the fields.
I am near Houston too and the rain is out of control. There are terrible floods all over the state with many homes washed away near rivers and lakes. Yesterday there were only 4 counties in the entire state that were not under a flood watch.
It has rained almost every single day in the month of May here in Denver. It's literally been cold/rainy for weeks on end. We are used to nice weather at this time of year, and usually bad weather doesn't last long here any time of year. It's really getting people down- I don't know how people survive in places where the weather is like this constantly!
Same here...we are wearing sweaters and rainboots. So tired of the rain...but it is better than the draught.
I'm in North Central TX and it feels like we have been rained on every day for the past month. Rivers are over their banks. The only good thing about all of this rain is the fact that many lakes are back up to full capacity.
I'm not jealous of the flooding, but I'm definitely jealous of the rain. Send a couple good storms westward, please.
stampin'teacher, I wouldn't go THAT far: flooding's terrible in its own way, the more so on top of adobe clay, and the relatively corrugated terrain means that the effects tend to be concentrated in ways for which the infrastructure really isn't designed.
We've had a horribly dry May. The farmers got their crops in, but in some places it hasn't rained since. We finally got at least a little bit this afternoon, but it definitely wasn't enough! Even our lawn is looking brown and pitiful, and that usually doesn't happen here until at least July.
Everyone is having septic tank problems because of ground saturation. Enough already! Raining again today.
We're in a severe drought, so we actually need the water. We haven't had any storms all year. Our snow pack has been less than 10% of what is necessary all winter long. That being said, after 3 solid weeks of indoor recess, every recess I'm about to pull my hair out, I'll take the drought over this. We need to go outside! I mean, I live in a desert for a reason.
Had another storm last night with lots of rain. A few dams are threatening to break because of the amount of rainfall that we've had. Saw a graphic that said it has rained 20 out of 26 days in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.
Thinking of all of you in the rain/flooding!!! We had some rain the past few days on & off. Good news our beans are sprouting, iris' have bloomed & raspberry patch looks much happier!!!
