School starts Monday for us here and there is no job in sight At first I was very upset, asking the same question many of us have asked, "What is wrong with me?, What did I do wrong?, Why is everyone else getting a job and not me?" I have thought and stewed over this for the past month or so and I have decided that I am going to embrace subbing this year and looking forward to teaching in the various schools in this district and being offered a job for next year....or heck, in the middle of this year!! And I am sorry, but if I had the opportunity to interview with a position that I really wanted, then I would bend over backwards to make sure I interviewed with them. I agree with whoever posted the comment about they must really wanted to talk because they called on a Saturday!! If you are THAT interested in teaching, you are going to have to make sacrifices.:sorry:
Kristi, I think that is a great idea! You can't control everything, but you can control your own attitude about things. Keep applying something is bound to open up in the area you need! Good luck this year!
Subbing is great and don't let yourself down for not getting a job. I've subbed for 2 years straight out of the credential program and I liked working after all those long days being in school. Then I took 2 years off to raise my kids and now I'm back to subbing again. Subbing is working out for me since I have kids and when I decide to go back to work FT or when someone else decides that they want me at their school (since I have made connections working), then I'll go back to work. What I'm trying to say, keep up the good work, talk to as many people as you can, and something good will happen. If teaching is what you want, you got to go after it!
I'm glad that you are going to be embracing your experience as a substitute teacher. I did it for over 5years and loved every moment of it. I would continue to do it forever if I thought that I would continue to get regular work. Meow.
Great attitude! Look on this as the perfect opportunity to be a guest in many classrooms that you can "borrow" ideas from. Have a notebook in your bag to jot down bulletin board ideas, discipline plans, book titles, games, etc. Make 1 extra copy of worksheets and put them in a file. You will come out of this experience with a wealth of information. Have a great year!
I'm with you Kristi! I couldn't get a job either! I love your attitude and have embraced subbing myself. But I do love subbing - the pay is just lousy though! A decent (and steady)paycheck would really help my family! But I'm fortunate enough that we can afford my subbing by being our usual frugal selves! I had my first sub job last week (the 4th day of school) - the teacher is pregnant! It may turn into a LTS position towards January. I'd be pretty happy with that!
Great attitude Kristi. And you never know, per diem subbing can turn into a LTS position somewhere. Also, there are probably schools that don't have their final numbers yet and you may even get a regular postion in a newly created classroom. Keep those good thoughts coming .
