Hi I'm in Virginia where we don't have Common Core, but have Standards of Learning (similar to Common Core). I teach in an urban middle school where we had only a 62% pass rate on the writing standard test. My new principal has asked if any of us know a successful program that would help our students improve their writing skills. Does anyone have any suggestions?
6+1 Traits is decent. It goes through 8th grade. I have used both the 7th and 8th grade Trait Crates. Lucy Calkins has some good writing resources. The National Writing Project is great, but that’s a class. I’d suggest it for the future, though.
