I got a call today from a Catholic school I interviewed with back in June and the P offered me a PreK maternity leave, starting at the beginning of the school year. She feels the teacher is not going to come back but even if she does the position would be for at least 6 weeks. I accepted and have to go in tomorrow morning to fill out paperwork.

BUT, I'm still waiting to hear from the district I interviewed with last week. I really really want that position - it's a full-time reading position - something I am much more interested in doing than PreK.

Should I mention to the P that I'm waiting to hear from another district or just wait until it happens?

TIA, I'm on my lunch break now so I'll check in when I get home from work later!

In my opinion, you shouldn't tell the principal that you have another possible job offer. If the job offer you want comes along, just tell the Catholic school principal you decided to go with something else.

You always have to look out for your interests first and not the principals, especially in this market.

I wouldn't mention the other position to the P.
If the other job comes through-I'm sure they would understand you taking a permanent position over a 6 wk position.

Congrats on the interview. I'm going to go the opposite and say you should bring it up. I did this morning when I interviewed for an aide position, and the P thanked me for being honest with him. I got the job!

(I know, I know...most will think I'm crazy for taking an aide (5 min commute) position instead of a teaching position (1 hr commute).

STG--Congrats! Considering the commute, I don't think your crazy at all. I bet the time and money will even out in the end.
And you have a foot in the door for a school much closer to home.

lemon~he said that he does hire his aides. In fact, a teacher he hired for the upcoming year was an aide for him last year.

    Thanks everyone.

STG, how did the school you left take the news? I know I don't have this other position but I am going to feel terrible if I have to back out of the maternity leave - I hate disappointing/upsetting people!

I don't think I'm going to mention it to the P tomorrow. As stupid as this sounds, I'm afraid if I tell her I'm waiting to hear from another district I will be jinxing myself and they won't call.
