I am sure a thread exists here somewhere, but I cannot find it. I recently got a desktop computer in my classroom for the students. So far they've only been using it to take AR quizzes, but I am in the process of collecting websites they can visit. Although I teach English, I would like a variety of websites - plus I am 95% certain I will be self-contained next year... So far, I have the following websites: 1. starfall.com 2. pbskids.org 3. disneyjr.com 4. sproutonline.com 5. ixl.com Are there any others that are highly recommended? Also, while I am posting, does anyone have any computer games that they've purchased that are also highly recommend? :thanks:

I have two suggestions: One of my favorites is the nation geographic education website (NatGeoEd[.]org). I love this website because they have great teacher resources such as lesson plans and interactives. Every resource has suggested objectives and grade levels. It also links other resources you may need. This is great for any social studies/science lessons. They do feature activities every month which change based on current events or relevance. I have yet to come across anything that they charge for, and it's Nat Geo so you know it's reliable! Definitely check out the Map Maker for map needs- it's great. The second one is more ELA based. Read, Write, Think is a GREAT site! This is organized by grade level, or what type of resource you want such a LP or interactive activity for the students. I really enjoy their poem building interactives. The students come up with a topic for their poem and type in words they brainstormed about the topic. Then the next page stores those words so they can reference them while they start their poem. I also really like their comic creator. My favorite is their Printing Press, where they can actually publish certain things like brochures or newspapers. Again, all FREE! This is great for content literacy integration. I try to stick to sites that I know are quality (scholastic, time, pbs, natgeo, etc.) versus homemade teacher sites where the information may not be correct (especially as students conduct research). As a rule I typically stay away from wiki's because they're often disorganized and aren't maintained so they have dead links. Good luck!
