I just got my new Webkinz, Eddie the Elephant, set to be one of our class pets! I will have my star student be in charge of Eddie to make sure he is fed each day. They will also have to earn "money" and other projects throughout the week. Pretty excited to see how this works. Thanks for the idea!;)

My nephew was trying to show me everything Eddie could do on Webkinz and I got system overload. I figure I'll learn something new each day and then be ready to type up some sort of direction sheet to post by Eddie in the classroom.

My son has a Webkinz with my mom. They play together. Then he learned that we can do it here too. I am now addicted  to the darn games!!!

    Beth,
I play lots of the games on Webkinz World and earn kinzcash for my girls. My favorite is tile towers. I could play it for hours. It really is pretty sad!

The games are fun and the quiz questions are grade appropriate.

I did this last year with my PreK-2nd grade students. They loved it, so I think I will do it again this year. I got a monkey and we named it Megabyte. I think I will add another this year, so more students can get involved since I only see them half an hour at a time. I am going to get a dog and name it Browser!

Hope you and your students have fun!

Haven't tried that one. I like Cash Cow and Cash Cow 2. I earn the cash for my son and mom to spend on the webkinz too. SOOOOOOOO glad I'm not the only one!

My nephew told me (he seems to be the expert in the house) that the "winged" animals are starting to come out- we saw a toucan yesterday. You may want to keep checking on the site.

I took my son school shopping yesterday and saw that JCPenney's had Webkinz and some accessories!! It was so hard not to buy the clothes and mouse pad!

Great, Mable, thanks!!! Could you get one off E bay or Amazon? Don't know if it would have the code, though.

How are you using them in your classrooms? I will be teaching PreK and thought that this might be something interesting to use in the room??

Ok, so I got a Spotted Leopard. Lenny. Can we do friends with these things or something?
Anyway, I think I'm going to have a zookeeper job, and that student needs to log in and take care of Lenny for the week. It's just a fun little thing, I don't know if I'll use Lenny in an actual lesson or not...

I was thinking the same kind of thing.

Or using it as a reward. During last recess a child who did a great job all day could stay in to play on the site. During the day someone who is doing well can have it sit on his/ her desk, etc.

That's kind of how I used it. I let one or two students have it sitting by them and they got to go online with it for the first 10 minutes of class to feed it and earn money, etc... Then they joined us in the regular lesson for the rest of class.

Right now, I am going to have the Star Student be the zookeeper or another cute name. Then, I thought I could also use it as something the students can purchase- time with Eddie. It'd be worth classroom cash- quite a bit so not all of the students flood it at once. Of course, I'd make sure that they had an Internet Contract that allows them to visit and I may also alert the parents so they know. Once I find out more, I may add more or see how my students react to it.
