I will keep my hopes up that my scores will be posted by the end of this week rather than have to wait till after the weekend.

ughh...I have to take this test on Sunday and I'm freaking out about it

I just signed up to take the test and I can't believe I'm going to take it on such short notice

I've looked over the Blue and Yellow study guide and this test is harder than the one I took in Michigan. It delves so much more into LA than I had imagined. Michigan's was basically read a passage and answer some questions about it. Maybe 3 0r 4 questions about fluency, phonemic awareness. That and I think the test was only 100 questions. I've been studying for the past 2 to 3 hours and I'm drained. I'm gonna take a break and then pick it back up.

if anyone has purchased this book, how helpful was it? Is is wise to study everything in the sections?

Fratbrats, thank you so much for the tip on checking the scores on SBEC. I just checked it & I -----------------PASSED!!!!!:party:

TEXES doesn't have the scores yet but so long as its in the place of record, SBEC that's what counts! Thank you much for the support. I am so happy! I can now move forward to what comes next! :)

I've taken both the EC-4 and EC-6, but I don't know what guide you are referring to? I used several guides for both. That's how I study, though. I used the same strategy for the SPED exam. Really know that Language Arts and be able to apply it to scenarios. That section is 40% of your exam. Sorry I've been traveling and just accessing this with my phone.

    Good luck on your test!

Something else that I used on this test was the preparation materials from TEXES for the ESL Supplemental, Reading Specialist, EC-4, Social Studies 4-8, and the Art EC-12 for just some extra study questions.

I also posted other materials that I used on another EC-6 thread. I read an ESL book for more exposure to the Language Arts, too.

I haven't started studying for the EC-6 Generalist, my life has been crazy, moving to Canada and all. But I believe that i'm moving BACK to Texas in the near future and will be taking the Generalist (already took the PPR and passed).

I've seen a number of study books out there, but which is the best? I'm thinking of buying Preparing to Teach Texas Content Areas by Nath/Ramsey, because it seems to have received the best reviews. Is it really the best?

Also, this thread is very helpful, I love it! :)

I loved that book! I had it when I passed the EC-4 a few years ago. Then, I rebought it on ebay when I decided to add 5th and 6th grade onto my certificate. I also used the Cliff Notes manual. It was great because it gave me a lot of questions. I took it about 10 days after registering for it, so I didn't have that long to study for it. I also used a ton of the practice guides from Texes. I used the Music, Art and PE, Reading Specialist, ESL, etc. I had outlined a 4th grade SS and Science book when I took the EC-4, so I also studied those notes. I needed to read up on Texas history, as I didn't grow up here. So, that was really helpful. I had put other links on an earlier post that were helpful, as well.

    Good luck!

It's not the case that any given test prep book is right for every test taker. If possible, spend some time with a prep book before you buy it - a nice evening involving latte is a good idea.

    EC-4th grade?

    Hello everybody,

I want to take the test for teacher certificate, EC - 4th grade( I study from Texes EC-4th grade, the yellow big book), I already started studying, but somebody told me that now I have to study another book EC - 6th grade, so the EC -4th is not valid anymore.
Can somebody please confirm this? Do I have to study from another book?

And something else please....do you know the time periods when I can take the exam?

I want to be a kindergarten teacher ...so what book should I study?

    Thank you so much.
    I really appreciate your time!

I think that is true, you can not take EC-4 generalist and EC-4 PPR because both of these tests are no longer offered. You need to take EC-6 tests.

    Hello,

I posted the resources that I used earlier. I took the EC-4 in 2007 and then this summer, I decided to add 5th and 6th grade to my certificate. I used the same materials to study for the EC-6 as I did the EC-4. I don't think that it's necessary to specifically buy the EC-6 book. If you can't find my earlier posts, click on all posts by fratbrats.

For the time periods, I'm not sure what you mean. I signed up for all my certificate tests on TEXES and just chose a date from the the scroll-down screen. If you take the CAT-version, you will have more choices. The paper-based exams are offered only a few times a year and the list in on the TEXES website.

Don't limit yourself to just one grade. Teaching jobs are hard to come by. I also have the SPED EC-12 certification. My dream job was to teach Kindergarten or first grade. Well, this is my 4th year of teaching 5th and 6th grade.

I recommend adding the ESL certification, as well. Some districts do require it. I'm currently preparing for that exam.

    Good luck! :)

I've taken the EC-4 and the EC-6. I used the same materials to study for both. Look at my earlier posts. Some might be on another thread. I think that you can click on my username and it will give you all the posts. Most of my posts involved the different tests that I took. For me, I always need several guides and resources, but that might just be the way that I need to study! Good luck! :)

Thank you so much for the link, it's very useful:).
So, you are saying that if I study only Texes EC -4th grade, is it enough in order to pass the EC- 6th grade test?

    Thank you so much!

If you look at the other posts, I listed all the resources. (With the specific titles.) I used several study guides. Before taking the EC-4, I also reviewed a 4th grade Science and Social Studies text book. (I had made flash cards for certain concepts that I felt a little weaker on, which I reviewed for the 2nd exam.) I took the EC-4 in 2007. This summer, I decided to add 5th and 6th grade onto the gen ed part of my certificate. I didn't buy anything new, except to repurchase a guide that someone didn't return. Look for a post that has a link for a TAKS study guide. I did review the Science/Social Studies up to 8th grade, too. That will cover the 5th-6th grade materials for those subjects. I also reviewed the study materials for other TEXES exams on the website, like the Art, PE, ESL, Reading Specialist, etc. Released TAKS tests can be helpful, too. Good luck!

    Yes, there's practically no difference that I could tell & I've taken both the EC-4 & EC-6.

I did pretty much the same thing Fratz mentioned. It's better to cover more particularly if you feel you are not a good test taker.

I always study more than I need to. All my fellow teacher friends kept laughing at me when I was studying for the EC-6. One of my friends who also added on 5th and 6th grade, just looked over the prep materials from Texes for the EC-6. That would have made me pretty nervous.

Yes, I know of one that just glanced at the test materials the day before, showed up late to take the test, snacked during the test, finished in 2 hrs & passed. I, on the other hand, studied for 3 weeks about 4 - 6 hrs daily.

Don't you love it! I know a teacher who barely looked over the EC-4 materials and passed with a very high score. When she told us, all of our jaws dropped!

Try looking at the test this way: It's an opportunity to review content that you may be teaching later - and if you're not teaching that content, you're going to be building skills to help kids cope successfully with that content when they encounter it later in their school careers.

Hi I was wondering if the math on the TeXes EC-6 has questions regarding the different properties eg ASSOCIATIVE or DISTRUBITIVE???
I have been reading different books to prepare myself but there is too much information to memorize.
I am not the best test taker so I am already beginning to get anxiety thinking about it.
Any details over the different subject areas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you! Ava

I took the test saturday and I think there were many questions about manipulatives- not so much on associative & distributive, but its good to know as much as possible. I thought the math part was harder than the practice tests because many questions are written just like the language arts questions where no problem is actually being done. Good luck!

ec-4 Cliff study guide for ec-6

I will be taking the ec-6 generalist. I was wondering if its better to buy the CliffsNotes TExES: Generalist EC-6 instead of CliffsTestPrep TExES: Generalist EC-4 because for sure it will cover 5th and 6th. My question is, does it really cover the same info than the ec-4 plus the 5th and 6th grade info?????? Now, its named Cliffs"NOTES" texes ec-6, and the other is Cliffs"testprep" is there a difference in quality that you know of?? It sounds like obvious, but u never know, just want to make sure, b4 i buy it, since there are not many reviews regarding the cliff ec-6

Please helpe me! Need to order it today, so i can receive it by next wk.

    Hello,

I have taken both of the exams. EC-4 and EC-6. When I took the EC-6, I used my EC-4 materials. I used the Cliff's Notes for EC-4. I don't know the exact title, as a friend is borrowing it for her exam.

I did buy the EC-6 online program from Certify Teacher.com. The best one is from Janice L. Nath, but it is an EC-4 preparation manual. I've listed the exact name in an earlier post. It's also being loaned out. If you can't find it, I can look the name up on the Internet.

I also used other preparation materials from Texes, like the Reading Specialist exam, music, art, PE, ESL. I went to Pearson Success.net and studied the TAKS preparation materials, I studied released TAKS tests up to 6th grade, and used free flash cards at Quizlet.com.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!

There does seem to be a difference in the Cliffs products, judging from what I've seen elsewhere.

    Hello....no answers?? its fine.

Well...a one week ago I did my practice test before the real test and my score its to low...something like 167....so, I don't gave my pass for the real test.

I'm need to do again but I think the best choice for study its with questions and another practice test by myself...

somebody know a website with more practice test?

    Thanks!!!
