Ok i have heard of letting out early b/c of impending snowstorms but here in the NE we got out early yesterday and today b/c of excessive heat? Yes it is 100 degrees outside but my classroom really isnt that hot- not that i am complaining getting out at 1:00! Hooray for us?
You're not out for the summer yet? Bummer. We had ealry dismiss once due to wind knocking out the power.
We had heat advisories almost every day the last two weeks of school. The kids had to do indoor recess.
Before the entire building got AC a couple of years ago, we would get out for excessive heat. You just couldn't cool off a room with two tiny windows and a pedestal fan.
We had several early release days last fall due to heat. Many of our buildings do not have air conditioning and kids on the upper levels were suffering.
We let out early here in NY today as well.....it has been brutal the last two days....it is supposed to break and be a "cool" 88 tomorrow!!
We let out 1/2 day today due to heat...it's 105 on my outside thermometer now...Weather is supposed to break tomorrow. Not AC in classrooms in my building.
Schools around us closed early, but not us Of course, I didn't expect my district to actually take the well being of their students into account. Many students were picked up early due to overheating Tomorrow is supposed to be "cooler" at 85 None of the classrooms in our district have AC, except for one special ed room that has a student who requires it. All of the administrators' offices have AC.
The kids got to leave today at 12:30 since we do not have ac and the heat index was almost 110 today. My room was about 100 degrees today. the teachers were to stay, but I got sent home since I developed a terrible heat rash.
No AC in our classrooms. Monday we were let out early and today we had NO school. Tomorrow's 88 will be a walk in the park
I live in NM and our last day was May 22 just as it started to get in the mid to high 90's. We go back August 12 when it will still be in the high 90's - but what do you expect, we live in the desert! My new school has air conditioning that shuts off automatically every 4 hours then someone usually has to buzz the office so the custodian can turn it back on. Unbelievable!
I'd like to send this one to our school board. nope...no AC. Because we are out before Memorial Day, it's usually OK in spring. But September is awful.
It was so humid that all of my papers in the classroom felt damp! I don't mind the heat- it's the humidity that makes it awful!
Most of our schools do not have AC in the area. We will be getting it after our renovations are finished in two years and this is just because we are getting a medically fragile group that have IEPs that require AC. It's ridiculous! How am I supposed to teach 5 and 6 year olds that are sweating from just sitting at their desks? All they do when they are hot is whine and cry over nothing and I start to lose my patience (since I am hot too!) My district is stupid with temperature. They turn off the heat based on a date too. A few weeks ago it was 65 and sometimes lower in my room!!! What is the deal that in 2008 we cannot have a comfortable place to teach?!?!?!
My district is the same. Heat comes on when it is 50 outside. We had AC put in last summer and when it is 65 outside the air kicks in. We are either too hot or too cold. Our custodian cannot adjust it as it is controlled downtown-as is everything else
