What do you guys use? Mine seems to be getting worse. I've been using Head and Shoulders without success. I wear too much black to be dealing with this.

Did you ever try a hot oil treatment?

You could also try a coal tar shampoo...Don't use if you might be preggers, though.

My brother used a Neutrogena product and it worked well for him, but I don't remember the name of it.

Garnier makes a dandruff/dry scalp shampoo.

Do you take a multi-vitamin? I notice that my skin (everywhere, including my scalp) is better and less dry when I take my vitamins every day.

What kind of head and shoulders do you use? I had used the dandruff kind and it didn't help. I got a recommendation to use head and shoulders dry scalp care. It has worked wonders for me. I had dry scalp and dandruff my whole life and nothing has worked like this. It took a few weeks, but now the dandruff is gone.

After shampooing, rinse with witch hazel. Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse out. If it doesn't help, do the same thing, but leave the witch hazel in.

When I lived up north I would get very dry scalp in the winter. I have used Tea-tree oil and Aussie's 3 minute miracle on my scalp. If it's dry and not dandruff any type of conditioning product should work. It's like putting lotion on dry skin.

I use LUSH hair care, and it's really good. They have a hair treatment just for dry scalp.

I use Olive Oil conditioning hair mask from the ethnic hair section at Target. I have super curly hair and it's so moisturizing.

The Neutrogena isT-gel, and works wonders. They also have something that you can just put directly on your scalp and it stops itch immediately.

Check out Neutrogena products. They have worked wonders for me.

If those don't work go to a salon and get a recommendation from them. Their shampoos are expensive but effective and generally last way longer than OTC shampoos. Good luck. I have struggled with this for years and always come back to Neutrogena.

PS You are probably using some product that is causing the problems. For hair products, I have the best luck with salon products. Lately I have had itchy scalp and it has been driving me insane. Finally realized I have been using hubby's shampoo again and it always makes my entire head itch, like a million mosquito bites.

I have to second this. I LOVE this shampoo... and the body wash. When I first started using these two items, my head and scalp would tingle! Now, I guess I"m used to it, darn it. I loved that tingly feeling! :D:whistle:

The deal with dandruff shampoos is this.. There are 5 types of active ingredients:

    Ketoconazole
    Selenium Sulfide
    Coal Tar
    Salicylic Acid
    Zinc Pyrithione

When one shampoo stops working for you, switch to a shampoo with a different active ingredient. People tend to just pick another shampoo without realizing they do have different active ingredients. None are any more effective than the other. They just work on different people and some stop working for a while, etc. Time to switch.

lots of great shampoo suggestions, but if all fails, consulting with a dermatologist might be worth the $$.

My dermatologist said that my dry scalp was from washing my hair too much.

I use to have the same problem. Do you put conditioner on your hair near your scalp? I finally realized that I only need to condition the bottom part of my hair. Now I can go the whole day with clean looking hair.
