Drumroll please..... after 4 summers of searching for an actual contractual position, after subbing for 4 years, tutoring, and taking all kinds of nonsense during interviews....

I have actually signed a contract!!!! Granted, it is only .5 (half-time) but they tell me there is a very good chance it will go full-time next year. It is 34 miles away, but hey, it counts towards my retirement, benefits, etc.

Another plus...it is a brand new school with brand new everything!!
My class sizes are small (10-12 kids total) but I am the only language arts teacher for the 7th & 8th grade, and may expand to
6th next year. Also, the music teacher is retiring next year, so I would be in line for her position!

Just want to say that there is hope, and my fingers are croseed for all of you who still are searching...it took me awhile, but perseverance and patience paid off! :D :thumb:

    That's wonderful!!!

    Congrats!!

And, in a brand new school, don't be stunned if it goes to full time this year. Opening a new school can be difficult, and some teachers simply are not up to the challenge. It's entirely possible that someone will quit mid year and that you'll get the full time job.

    >>and taking all kinds of nonsense during interviews.." please elaborate...<<
all kinds of humiliations....silly questions, being called by the wrong name, waiting forever, interviewers acting bored while I talked...I can go on.

    >>and what do u think was the turning point...<<
To be honest, I really don't know. I think it was just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. The school is looking for a lang. arts teacher but will need a music teacher next year - it just so happens I am certified in both. They want to have one teacher for both positions.

All I can say is I feel for you - I have been looking for 4 summers now (I finished my student teaching in April 2007). I wish you the best.
