Hi, New teacher here and I was told by many people that one of the best ways to get a job is to go a school and hand your resume in to the receptionists or the principal if you happen to be lucky enough if they're there. My question is this even possible these days? Are there anyone in offices to receive resumes and if not, what else is there to do other than responding to job openings on line
Don't do it. Pandemic or not, it's not a good idea. Just follow the instructions for applying that you find on the website. If you don't see instructions, or if it's a smaller, somewhat independent type of school, you could possibly send a personal email. But do not go to the school to drop off your application materials in person. Bad idea.
Our school buildings have been basically empty since our school closures started in mid-March. There are caretakers working the bare minimum and the administrators are working from home most of the time. Protocols for arranging to get into the building are very strict. Even as a staff member, I wouldn't be able to just show up, ring the buzzer, and expect to be let in. I would just follow the procedure that is laid out in the application process; this isn't the time to try to see someone in person.
Most districts don’t accept in person or even faxed or emailed resumes anymore. It’s mostly done online. Check what the district policies are.
Our school year isn't finished yet (we finish on June 26th), and are continuing remote learning for the rest of the school year. The decision about the fall will be made provincially, not by school or district, and is supposed to be announced by the end of June. At this point, I can't see us doiing anything other than starting remotely in September.
