I went to a huge area job fair today, armed with mini-folios and a big mouth!!! One of the last districts I went to had a Sped person going down the line , pulling out candidiates. (My badge says Language arts) I spoke up and said "I will be next week" my ansewr caught him off guard so he came to speak with me. I explained that my Sped exam had been cancelled and rescheduled for July 5, and that I am driving over 100 miles to take it so I don't have to wait. He asked me some questions and then told me to stay put, went to the table and looked at a list, made a phone call, and then came and asked me to come back in 45 minutes. As I walked away another gentleman from the district reminded me to come back. So I felt good, they wanted to schedule an interview. 45 minutes later the second gentleman sees I have returned, breaks from his conversation, gets my packet and asks me to step out. (I figured he was gonna tell me to come back after I take the test) He makes a call (to a principle) and then hands me the phone. The principle asks me to come over ASAP, so i do, we talk, tour, and Talk some more (over 1 hour, just us) then she tells me that even though I am ACP (not ACP friendly district) and I have not yet passed the exam she is keeping the job for me, call her as soon I get scores!!!!! From the time I got in that line until I got a job, less than 3 hrs!!! Great school, great district, close to home, my dream job!!!! Thanks to all the great advise and encouragement from this board!! Heather
That is SO awesome! Looks like the job couldn't be more perfect because of the way it landed in front of you. Congratulations!
Hey hdemza, I believe I went to the same job fair as you. This was my second teacher job fair so I knew what to expect. But I got an interview the same day too that was at the school that needed the position. I was excited because after I spoke with the representative form the school ( the AP) about 15 min. later he came to an other school booth where I was standing in line and asked if I could come in for an interview! For my first teacher interview I thought it went very well, The principal told me that they have one more candidate and they would contact me rather I got the position are didnt get it. I have not heard anything yet so I guess I am still in the running.
Wow, That's great. I'll keep my fingers crossed. my whole experience was so informal, the principal was wearing a t-shirt and jeans, she was at the school working. I never expected to get the job on the spot!!. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Did you do alt cert? I f so through who?
Life works in a different experience that what we ever would happen. Best of luck to you in the test next week. Keep us posted.
Thanks, i am getting very anxious, but now my mind is also racing with all the things I need to do. my class is an expansion on the existing program at that school, so the pricipal said she ordered the basics. Also i know that i will be responsible for the academics, and do not get TE's I have to build the curriculum myself as my kids will be on all different levels!!!! So another million things to think about!!!!
