I just took a look at my local paper's website and on the front page is a story about some students and teachers from the private school where I worked last year. The school (and church it's affiliated with) does a lot of missionary work in Haiti. Apparently 16 students and teachers, along with the church pastor, went to Haiti last weekend for a senior trip and were due to come back this Saturday. Violence has erupted due to lack of food, though, and all of the roads are closed to the airport. They're on lockdown in a small villiage and apparently don't have enough food to last them much past Saturday. According to the article, the pastor called his wife (my old principal) last night and told her they could see smoke and could hear gunfire. I'm shaking right now and don't know what to do with myself.

Thoughts and prayers would be appreciated....

Good news. I just read in the paper that they were cleared by the embassy to come home tomorrow as planned. The parents must be so relieved. I can't even imagine.

Beth let us know when they make it home safely. They should be enroute now.

I saw on the news that they were due back at the church/school at 7:30 tonight. Everyone should be home safe and sound. :)
