I have a question about the thank you letters. I read on the website that only some donors qualify for the thank you letters. Is there a certain amount that has to be donated before a letter goes to that person? Some of the projects that I looked over have 30+ donors... that is a lot of letters to write.

If you click on your thank you package instructions, it will tell you how many requested thank you notes. The kids make them, not you.

Thanks. I didn't realize the donors had to request thank you notes. My project is not fully funded yet.. I was just curious how that worked. Thanks

I think there is a limit, I want to say $50, but I"m not sure. Once your project is funded you'll get instructions on who you will send the letters to. (And you only get the 7 or 8 kids to write to each person, not the whole class, that makes it easier.)

I am pretty sure any donation gets thank you letters, no matter how small. Perhaps this is a recent change?

I know the teacher can post a public thank you which is distributed to all donors online - but physical thank you notes are only distributed after a certain donation amount is hit.

No, the donor has to request it, and there is an amount. I had a project once that had about 12 different donors, but only 3 had to have thank you notes.

Not super-recent but yes, it is a change. Back in the early days of 2-3 years ago everyone got one.

Regardless if how many donors, I think one would be thankful and not worry about writing thank you notes when people were generous enough to donate any amount to fund their request.:2cents:

    Not worried, simply asking.

This seemed like you were concerned. Sorry if I misinterpreted. Congrats on your project!:thumb:

I don't think the OP was implying not wanting to write the notes, simply asking a question as a new DonorsChoose participant.

Yes, she clarified that. I was explaining my misinterpretation. But thanks!

I'm a little off topic here, but does anyone have much luck with Donors Choose? I've submitted 5 projects over the last few years, but only 2 were funded. My presentations were great, I'm in an extremely low-income school with high needs, and I kept the amounts low ($100 or maybe slightly above), but they don't get funded. I've given up on them.

I've had 14 or so funded, and probably 9 or 10 not funded, I watch the emails from them, especially the matching offers. For example, an organization supporting art education offered one a while back. I wrote that one for the art projects for the museum project I do. I normally wouldn't have written a project for that, but it made them much better that year. It's sad to see a good project go unfunded, but don't give up. Some of the tips I always share is to have a catchy title, make your plea personal, let the donor see that they can personally make a change, and be prompt with your thank you letters. Good luck!!!
