I hereby resolve not to spend money on name-brand products if I can find a store brand that works just as good.

    :D

I am resisting the urge to buy a pair of $100 New Balance gym shoes. If I can find a boys size 5, it's half the price of a women's 8. It's exactly the same shoe.

There is a new Aldi in the next county. I didn't care for it. I can find better stuff at the Save a Lot store in town, and I don't have to drive 20 miles to get there.

I do love Dollar Tree. I buy reading glasses there. I break them or leave them places, so the $1 ones are great. We don't have one here, though. It's in the next county, across from Aldi, actually.

    The Dollar Tree.....
I literally go in for 1 item.
    I end up spending $100.
It was a very fun night. Now, I have 100 items that are basically junk. Yay!!!!

My only concern is the heavy gasoline smell on some of the toys and other products. I read somewhere that it's a preventative measure against pests traveling in packages from overseas. I was very upset when purchasing items for my grand daughter's birthday party. The items didn't stink until I took them out the package. Washed them, left them outside, and they still stunk. It was awful and I was really mad.

You can return to Dollar Tree, but only for a store credit.

My weakness used to be Target. I'd plan to get just a couple things & end up w/ $75 or so worth of stuff. I've been a lot better w/ the Target spending these days.

Target has gone up on their prices. They took a blow with the security breach on debit cards a few years ago, and also bad press for making their employees work Thanksgiving. The trend of Black Friday turning into something crazy Thanksgiving Thursday was awful.

Also, they closed their pharmacy or it was taken over by CVS. During the change, the drug aisles were a complete mess. When they finally made the switch, the pharmacy staff seemed cold and uninterested. In the stores where I shop, none of the pharmacy clerks seem willing to help me find items on the sales floor.

When I go to the Dollar Tree I have specific things in mind that I need. I only bring enough money for those items. CASH only. Can't overspend that way!

I go to Dollar Tree for gift bags, tissue paper (for the gift bags), and greeting cards.

When I was still in the classroom, I would purchase treasure chest items there, too.

The one here is in a sketchy part of town. All the homeless camp out in front. I go first thing in the morning when it's nice and bright outside.

I have a Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, and Dollar General all within about 2-3 miles of where I live, and I've never stepped foot in any of them. Maybe I should, but I never say to myself as I'm driving by "Gee, I need to go buy some cheap junk to fill my apartment today!"

I prefer one-stop shopping so I just get everything at my Shop-Rite (supermarket), or occasionally Target/Amazon.

    TrademarkT,

You can find some regular brand and good generic brand household products at Family Dollar.

There’s a few homeless people begging outside some of my Dollar Tree stores. And shady folks, always arguing outside of Family Dollar. Kinda takes away my desire to go there.

We have a Dollar General a few minutes up the street so I routinely walk there to buy a few items. I wouldn't go nuts buying junk there though.

I take my 3 yr old to Dollar tree if I feel like I’ve been saying no too often. He’s allowed to pick ONE thing. It usually takes an hour. Easy cheap activity that makes him forget how mean I am!

The best thing at our local Dollar Tree....
cards, gift bags, name brand bread (just stopped carrying this), and snacks

Many things look like they are good deals because they are only a dollar, but the quantity is so small that you end up paying more per oz or lb than if you bought it at another store. But for those that don't have 8 dollars for a steak, a dollar for a few ounces is better than nothing. As I've said before, being poor is more expensive than being wealthy.

Dollar Tree sells these charcoal air dehumidifier thingys that I have never seen anywhere else -- I have an old house and the closets get funky, so I put those in there and they suck out all the moisture. They're awesome!
