Since most of us are dog people, including me, here's a spin-off thread! What are your favorite dog breeds? Are there any breeds you'd never own in a millions yrs? I like & wouldn't mind owning: (yes, I love the smaller dogs) Boston Terrier - I have one NOW! He's my baby! French Bulldog Miniature Schnauzer Pomeranian Bichon Frise - I found one for my aunt...lots of grooming, looks like stuffed animal! Brussels Griffon Cairn Terrier - dog breed of Toto from Wizard of Oz Norwich Terrier Italian Greyhound Pug Toy Fox Terrier Affenpinscher Japanese Chin Scottish Terrier Shiba Inu Ibizan Hound Not that they're not great, but I probably wouldn't get a breed that's too common or doesn't look more unique.
My all time fav dog is a black lab, and i just bought my boys two black lab puppies in March. I love them. Not a fan of small dogs. I really don't care for yappy dogs.
No. I got my dog a shirt, sweater & sunglasses, but since I didn't get him used to them as a puppy, he doesn't really like them.
I never have, but some friends do. I've seen dogs fight like crazy to get it off and others who seemed to love it.
My dog has one sweater, one pajama outfit, one bandana, and a raincoat...they were bought just to satisfy my parental urge. If I had a black lab, I wouldn't dream of it. But I consider my dog to be less dog and more human...so there's my justification for something really stupid!
Pound puppies for us!!! I loved my pound puppy!!! Golden mix!!! We put a tie around her neck for a couple pix & a Snow White red bow once!!!
:lol::lol: You're funny. I don't think I would for my dogs either. In fact I've rarely seen large breed dogs dressed. Its usually smaller dogs. Do you think thats accurate, or am I blind?
Oh yeah, I bought my dog a Santa outfit too! I haven't put him in clothes for a long time, maybe he won't mind it these days.
Pound puppies. We have 2 pound puppies, 1 is a black lab mix, the other is a terrier mix (looks like a mini lab). Both dogs are black, the animal shelters here have an abundance of black dogs so we made a point to save two of them.
We have mutts, and one Basset Hound. My husband raised them when he was a kid, so I feel like we will always own one or two. Our vet always says that they are "God's breed." I agree, except when our baby is eating something important of mine...
I love bull dogs, beagles, labs, great danes, and bloodhounds. In my opinion, the bigger the better when it comes to dogs. And we used to put my brothers clothes on our black lab. We would put on a pair of boxers backwards so her tail could stick out the fly. And then a t-shirt. She was so gentle, we could do anything to her, but you could tell she seemed embarrassed. lol
I, too, like shelter dogs. Our dog now is a big, black mutt. And ku-alum is correct. More black shelter dogs are euthanized at shelters because they don't "show' well or photograph well. They call them Black Pearls.
The breeds I had in the past were Sheltie/collie mix. They didn't have the size of the collie or the attitude of the sheltie. Dog in the future? I just like multi colored, and medium in size.
I have three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They are my absolute favorite. My boyfriend and I also have two Redbone Coonhounds(Where The Red Fern Grows), one Black and Tan Coonhound, and a mixed hound. I love spaniels and hounds. I would like a Rhodesian Ridgeback minus the ridge and a Saint Bernard.
We have an Australian Shepherd...super cute, super friendly, and super smart! She gets her hair cut so she has a sweater in case it gets cold (it usually rains the day after she gets groomed even in the summer!). She also has a bumble bee costume for Halloween. She's not a fan of the clothes but because she's so sweet she deals with them. We can put pretty much anything on her like a collar and she's fine with it so she's worn bandanas, Hawaiian leis, reindeer antlers, etc.
I love almost all dogs. I grew up with beagles, so I"m partial to those. I am allergic though, so we ended up getting non-allergenic and non-shedding dogs. They are little but not yappy. Bichon Frise (requires lots of grooming, but gentle and loving to everyone). Italian Greyhound (these are wonderful dogs..so loving and great with family. They act like a puppy even at 10 years old. Playful and fun) I see both of my dogs made your list MsI.
We have our beautiful 2 year old stray pup. She is a border collie/black lab mix. I keep her 'naked' as often as possible, she's such a good listener that I haven't put a collar on her in a good year or so.n Occasionally in the summertime I put a bandanna on her, so she stands out when we go in the woods.
I am a pug woman. In fact, I would have no problem growing old with multiple pugs. They are wonderful. I wouldn't mind a French Bulldog though. But pugs are first. Am trying to convince the boyfriend for a second one.
Oh yeah, TeacherNY, I meant to say in my previous post that I remember that pic you posted...so cute!
Ms. I, we have very similar tastes! I really like different dogs too. Dogs that I'd like to own: Boston Terrier French Bulldog Miniature Schnauzer Bichon Frise Brussels Griffon Toy Fox Terrier Affenpinscher Scottish Terrier Coton de Tulear We currently have a Havanese who is our baby. We got him from a rescue very far away since we wanted to rescue a dog instead of getting one from a breeder. All of the rescues around here have mostly pitbulls - it's awful! Nothing against pits, but we don't want one and unfortunately most of the people who adopt them don't take the time necessary to train them.
I like the bigger dogs. The Boxer is my favorite breed. We owned 3, and losing the last one was really hard on me-he was my boy, my baby. I still miss him terribly even though its been two years. We have adopted two rescues-lab/pit mixes-and they are the most lovable, expressive dogs. The female, Trixie, is really attached to me, and Toby is a boy through and through. He follows my husband and son all over the place. Okay, I admit it, Trixie and Toby have won my heart!
I have a Cavie and a Golden. I love them both. My Cavie is a fabulous lap dog, and Goldens are just the most precious dogs.
I adored the bassett hound we had when I was in 4-6th grade. His name was Charles Elphonse the Third. When he was a puppy, he would run and trip over his ears. Mom had a special pin she used to pin up his ears whenever he ate. He was adopted to another family when we moved overseas who had three female bassett hounds. He was supposed to be their studmuffin. Unfortunately, he kept hitting his nether regions on the steps coming up from the basement and they think that must have sterilized him. I'm serious, here.
I had a border collie mix growing up. He was the best dog ever. He followed me all over our 28 acres, through creeks, up trees, etc. One of my best friends has 2 yellow labs in her house and they are the most adorable, funniest, well behaved dogs you could imagine. I love them. I have always said, though, that I wanted an Irish Wolfhound. They are beautiful and supposed to be so kind.
I'm a fan of mutts. I had a German Shepherd/Australian Shepherd mix for 14 years. DH has a German Shepherd/Husky mix that's 3 years old. We were also adopted by two other mutts. One was a pit bull/coon hound mix, and the other was a pit bull/black lab mix. One neighbor moved and left the dog behind. The other neighbor just got tired of the dog and left him to roam around the neighborhood. We took care of them until we could find them good homes.
Such cute dogs Ima Teacher and I'm glad they found you. My favorite kind of dog is the English Springer Spaniel. Mine was so smart and loyal I could never replace her after she died...never. I have learned to love the large (VERY large) Bull Dog that our son has now. He is so big, I can't believe it and yet so gentle and silly!!!
