I am taking over the GT coordinator position this coming year and need to create an "official" policy. I'd like to look at what other districts are doing, take the best, leave the worst, and get some good ideas. If your school has its policy online, or you have a GT teacher with a website, please post it here or email me. Thanks!

Is this the Guidance Team? GT in our district stands for Guidance Team and they are who we meet with when we have concerns about a child in our classroom.

Unfortunately, it is not available online if this is what your asking about. I can see if I can get a copy of it when I'm allowed to get back into the building in a couple of weeks if you still want it. Sorry!

I think GT stands for Gifted and Talented...didn't we have a discussion about all of the acronyms for this a while back?

Ours is HAL (High Ability Learners), and I would also be interested to see others' programs.

Oh...didn't even think about that. Ours is called the STEP program and the district next to calls theres the GATE program. Sounds like it needs to be the same everywhere! Thanks kcjo...

Yep, sorry for the confusion. Gifted and Talented, Academically Advanced, that type of program.

I don't think that our policy is online, but I can tell you the general policy:
All students are tested every year
After the general test the kids meet with the GT coordinator for small group testing
After a student has been admitted, they meet twice a week with their grade level group and the GT coordinator where they work on long-term projects that they mostly guide themselves.
They also have to be placed with a teacher who is GT certified and is current on the number of district GT credits required.

KinderCowgirl - Thanks! Your district has a wonderful site!

Taha - Your GT coordinator tests EVERY child EVERy year? Not just the new kids? It's great to see the kids are placed with a teacher who is certified. Our district is small and I'm "it".

The classroom teacher tests all children at the beginning of the year and the GT coordinator looks at the tests and decides who to do further testing on.
