We have 35 minutes which includes lunch and recess.

But do you have recess during another part of your day?

We have a thirty minute lunch and a 20 minute recess (on days it isn't raining or too cold)

Our kindergarten through 3rd graders have a 15 min. morning recess, a 20 min. lunch, a 20 min. lunch recess, and a 15 min. afternoon recess. I feel like we are becoming the minority in having so many recesses.

In our school each teacher has the choice to take his or her class. I give my kids a 20 minutes recess after lunch. I go crazy if they don't get out. I do know one k teacher who never takes her class out! I feel bad for those kids.

My old school had a 15 min recess for k-8, sometimes K/PK would make it out twice a day.

My new school will not have recess, the area is not really safe to be outside the school.

I'm thinking about taking my kids out in the morning for 10 minutes. It's a long morning and I had so many issues last year with kids just needing to MOVE! I need to make sure this is ok with my principal.

I take my kids out in the morning for 10-15 minutes. At lunch, they have 30 minutes total--15 minutes for lunch and 15 for recess (but I think if kids want to stay in and eat they can...but if I were 7 years old and had a choice between staying inside and eating my school lunch or going outside and running around on the playground, I'd probably just forget the lunch!)

Our students (K-6) have a 30 minute lunch and a 20 minute recess. K has an extra recess (if not 2 extra recesses).

We have 30 minutes for lunch and 30 minutes for recess. Teachers do both duties. When I have lunch duty my own lunch is during recess time. When I have recess duty my lunch is during the kids lunch time.

To those of you who don't get recess, when do you get to eat your own lunch?

I am a firm believer in morning recess ~ or some sort of stretching break to help break up that LONG morning!

My kids have from 11:00-11:45 ~ and that is their entire lunch/recess period. I like it fine, but sometimes the kids rush to eat their lunch so they can get outside asap ~ or don't finish it at all!

Our students also have recess right after lunch but they are not allowed on the playground until a particular time and then they all go outside at the same time with their teacher escorting. This way, everyone has to sit in the lunch room for the entire lunch period. Still, some of them don't eat anyway because they are obsessed with their bodies. Yes...even some 4th graders.:(

We don't get to have scheduled recess--if we did we wouldn't have enough instructional time in our schedules. Some days I let them run around in the grassy area beside our building when we come back from lunch. (Can't use the playground because it's being used for P.E.) And on warm days we have snack outside so they can run around.

However, we have 50 minutes of P.E. each day! So I have a follow up question about recess. Those of you who have recess(es) do your kids have P.E. every day also?

I have recess everyday. PE is supposed to be three days a week. Our PE teacher travels to other schools too so scheduling is a problem. Most of us get at least two PE periods a week. The third one counts as one of our recess days.

Oh and our PE periods are only 40 minutes. That's my planning time.

My last school had no recess so I took the kids out on my own. Especially when they clearly had ants in their pants :).

This school has one 15 minute recess around 9 am and a 20 minute recess right before lunch. I love the idea that they play first and then go eat lunch. Teachers pick them up from the lunch room.

When kids arrive in the morning everyone stays in the cafeteria until about 15 min. before school starts. Then they have the option of going outside. After lunch, they go out for 15-20 min. Then we take them out in the afternoon for 15-20 min at the end of the day.

My last class was so wild that I would sometimes even throw in a 5 min. extra recess mid-morning. I would make the kids run laps for 2 min. and let them play for 3. They loved it and were ready to come back and work when we finished.

We have PE for 35 min on a rotating 4 day schedule. So once a week. Twice a week very rarely. We make a big deal when it's a 2 PE week!

My children have a 45 minute lunch/recess time. 25-30 min lunch and 15-20 min recess. Usually I take them outside in the afternoon for another 20 mins.

Everyone at my school has a 30 minute lunch. We schedule in our own recess. Most of the time my students get 30-45 min of recess. We only have PE once a week.

    State law

In NC it is a state law that the children have 30 minutes of physical activity a day.
