My son is 17 (18 in November) and will be leaving for university in a few weeks. My daughter is 14 and starting high school in the fall.

I cast my vote for "in and out of the house" because, although my son isn't gone yet, I'm trying to get used to the idea :(

    Ummm. . . 3 sons; 8yo, 5yo, and 2yo

    no daughters (sigh)

My 8yo is thoughtful and links concepts easily, is ahead of the curve on every academic measure, enjoys learning, and often gets into trouble at school for behavioral issues. He is funny, good-looking, and physically strong, but socially naive and slow to make friends.

My 5yo is incredibly enthusiastic and can make friends with anyone he meets, regardless of language, age, or gender. His preschool teacher cried -- a lot -- at his pre-K graduation. He is (so far) average in intelligence and has limited English proficiency. He's the one in my avatar pic right now.

My 2yo is extraordinarily determined and self-focused (I suspect his breath-holding syndrome is related to this). He also has an almost eerie ability to mimic behaviors with great accuracy and has great motor coordination. This has helped him learn to throw a football (with a step and body twist, holding the football in the correct manner) and to drop-kick a soccer ball.

Despite our wish for a daughter, we are not trying for any more -- too expensive! The three we have are some of the most wonderful kids I could imagine.

1 4 year old daughter here. We were pregnant last year, but unfortunately lost her. We haven't decided if we want to try for another one or not since I had problems with both pregnancies.

There wasn't an option for "No kids, still deciding whether to have any."

My husband and I are completely unsure about whether we want to ever have kids. We're pretty much right in the middle of the spectrum, with occasional, tiny slips to either side (for, against) from time to time.

For now, we've decided to table the issue until my husband is done with school. After that, we'll re-evaluate and make a decision one way or the other.

I've known for years that if I ever wanted to conceive that it would be an uphill battle. Fortunately, that seems to be coupled with a lack of a desire to try, which makes the situation much easier. Add to the mix a husband who doesn't want kids AND who went through multiple facial surgeries to correct a congenital jaw defect, and we're both happy being parents to the cat and guinea pigs.

I have a 20 year old daughter who lives at home and is a junior in college to become a high school counselor. I have a son who is 14, learning to play guitar, going into the 9th grade (homeschooled), and looking for a job. And I have a daughter who is 5, almost 6, going into first grade (homeschooled). Big age gap, but wonderful blessings!!!

Well, I am not sure if I can actually have kids-long story. However, my husband and I have chosen not to have any, and for this I am apparently evil, according to some of my relatives. I love kids, of course, but there are some major concerns as far as genetics issues. I think the last thing we are being is selfish, but some of the relatives think we are horrible. It does not bother me, really, their opinions.

The decision to have kids is very personal. Don't let overbearing relatives make you feel guilty.

Thanks, mmswm. :) I am learning how to deal with my crazy family and I am getting better every day. It amazes me that people can voice their opinions, with something so personal. I worked with a woman who said we had no right getting married if we "refused" to have kids.

sad...some people are just plain stupid. Why should you deny yourself the love of your life just because you don't want to have kids???? That makes no sense to me. Kids are great, but they are a lot of work and require a lot of sacrifices. That decision is only for you and your dh to make, and nobody elses.
