Do you have a themed classroom? Either way would you mind voting and if you have a theme tell us what grade level you teach and what theme you use. Thanks
I do not have a theme but my room is all in navy and orange (I guess subconsciously I'm rooting for the Detroit Tigers )
1st grade, self-contained. My classroom colors are chocolate brown & sky blue. My theme, however, is endangered animals!
2nd grade Frogs I've had apples, trains, and rabbits as themes before. I want to do a western theme soon.
My K room will just be very colorful. I might add striped border and stuff like that to tie it in, but I just like colors!
I'm going to do a frog theme this year in 1st grade. Last year I was in Kindergarten and did bumble bees
1st 2nd and 3rd "A Bad Case of Stripes" (Book themes) I have done "A Bug's Life" and "Monster's Inc." (Movie themes)
1st year in 1st grade. My theme is the beach. I have colorful towels for the kids to sit on when we have morning meeting. I also found fish stickers for the window and a colorful fish print for the bulletin board. I even found a bulletin board set to count down to our 100 day celebration. It is a giant fishbowl with 10 sets of colorful fish. My classroom helper will be the "lifeguard" and I will have a little beach chair for him/her to sit on. I'm very excited!
Most of my decorations are tropical, but I would not really call that a "theme." I mean, I don't call lessons by tropical names, that sort of thing.
I have a Hollywood theme. My bulletin borders are popcorn, stars, filmstrip, and red sparkle. My classroom website is a Hollywood theme, too.
My theme is butterflies. My decorations and such are neon green (the color that is all over Wal-Mart etc). With other colors thrown in. I just finished my curtains they are so cute. Check out the fabric I used. http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat2833&PRODID=xprd862635
Colors-red, black, zebra print Could easily turn this into an African Safari Adventure theme, but...I just don't want to buy much. We'll see.
5th grade: TEAM/Teamwork supported by sports (especially softball/baseball) I do not incorporate a color palette into my room though. I have a number of different colors on my bulletin boards.
4th grade special education Ladybugs Red & black (of course!) Mine is mostly decorations, but sometimes I find something academic to go along with it. I am calling my resource folders BUGS (Being Unusually Good Students) this year, instead of Learning Logs. I didn't like the acronym for LADYBUGS on the MOOSE binder website.
2nd grade - Jungle Theme next year when I go back to 1st I will have a robot theme for my 2 year looping...I figured I could use a new theme every two years, because I'll get new kids every two years.
I haven't been successful so far with themes. I teach 3rd grade and I'm realizing that a lot of my items are different versions of green and blues. I have a green and blue paisley directors chair, green baskets, blue baskets, green folders, etc.
My frog fabric is green and blue. I picked the colors first since those are supposed to be condusive to learning, then found the frog fabric. So if you are desperate for a theme, frogs would be easy to implement with what you already have.
Does anyone change their theme yearly? I was thinking of doing that since I have my junk from earlier themes, but would never do it if I didn't already have the stuff. That would be very expensive!!
I have worked with teachers that change their themes yearly. I think it really depends on the students you have and how much work and money you want to spend on it all. I think I will change mine yearly because I am in a really small school and the kids will all have seen mine before they are actually even in the class, but that is just me.
