I saw these personal laminators online and have a few questions for people have them. They use pouches instead of rolls of laminate material. Anyone?
I don't now which one you mean but I got one for Mother's day a couple of years ago It also uses pouches. Works really well! The pouches come in different sizes, but If I'm laminating something small, I'll just cut out a piece that fits. I'm allready done with most of the laminating I need done for the fall.
We have one at my last school. It laminated much better than the big laminator! The plastic was really thick.
Yep, got it at BJ's a couple of years ago and ABSOLUTELY love it!!!!! Lamination is so much thicker than the one at school.
I got my Scotch brand laminator at Walmart for under $30, and buy my pouches on Amazon. It's fantastic!!! I only have 2 issues with it: (1) I am limited to items that are 81/2 inches wide by 14 inches long (legal) as far as large things go - but I take my big stuff (posters, etc.) to school to use the big laminator. (2) It doesn't get quite as hot as the big laminators like at school, so when you are cutting things out before lamination, be sure to leave at least 1/8-1/4 inch between items so it will seal between them - there's a much bigger "hem," for lack of a better word. I have used it at home (my dear hubby cuts my stuff out for me ) and at work - I would laminate the kids if I could!
Do you ever want to laminate something on a 12"x18" piece of construction paper? Like kids' artwork? I'm trying to think, would it be worth it to get one that can laminate up to 12" wide? There's a Royal one for $53 that does it. The pouches are about 40¢ each (buy 2 get 1 free/100 count).
I have a scotch brand laminator from walmart.. I use the pouches. I like it better then in big school laminator. I take my big things (posters, etc) to lakeshore and laminate it there.
My grandma bought me one for Christmas 2 years ago and was my FAVORITE present. I use it all the time. Great quality.
I have a personal laminator, and I LOVE it! I bought my first one, a Fellowes Cosmic CL 95 Laminator, when I was student teaching in spring 2010 for about $50 from Walmart. I used it obsessively throughout my first couple years of teaching. It finally died this past spring, and I replaced it with the Scotch TL901 Laminator for about $30 from Amazon. Both have met (possibly exceeded) my expectations, and I would never give them up! After seeing how useful it was, my teaching partner ordered herself one, too.
I would kill for a personal laminator!!! We have several at school that we are allowed to use but having my own at home would save me so much time. Are the sheets expensive?? Maybe I will get one for Christmas!
Bought mine for around $30. Not sure where, I am thinking I bought it at Staples. I use sheets I buy at Staples or any of the office supply houses. It works great, but I have to make sure to pull on the laminated sheet as it is coming out of the laminator. Otherwise it gets caught inside and ruins my paper. Sheets are expensive! Don't want to waste any.
If you don't mind stocking up, Laminator.com gives a buy two get one free deal on pouches. OK, I'm sold. I put the Scotch one in my Amazon cart. Waiting for buyer's remorse to set in - not that I won't love the product, but I have a hard time spending money on myself!
I got my laminator from Amazon yesterday. It's the scotch one some of you talked about on here. I laminated a print of my great-grandparents and their nine kids. I like how thick the laminate is. I'm really happy with it so far! Thanks for all the advice!
Glad you got it, Shelly! I'm sure you'll get much use. Not sure where you live, but I get my pouches from a company in Oregon. Their site is Oregonlam.com Reasonable prices (at least compared to what I see in Office Depot, etc.) and a box of 100 lasts me a long time!
Thanks, Disney & Ted, Ted, I'll check out the Oregonlam site. I came from Oregon (dad's side of my family) and live in the Bay Area, like you. It was funny when the laminator arrived, I kept thinking, Hmm.. what should I laminate? Made me wonder why the heck I bought the thing. Really, though, I will not be using it at home. The stuff I want to use it on is at school. Now I have a die-cut machine and a laminator. I feel so rich!
Ted, Check out Laminator.com. The Oregonlam site has 3-mil 100 count boxes for $19.99 plus $5.95 shipping; the Laminator site has the same quantity/mil for $13.99 plus $8.95 shipping to my zip code. The Oregon site says they will match prices, though, so you might want to give them a chance to do so?
I just went to my local BJ's and bought the Scotch laminating pouches, 50 for $6.99. http://www.bjs.com/scotch-85-x-11-thermal-laminating-pouches-50-count---clear.product.129201?dimId=
Miss W. is BJ's like Costco? Good idea to look there. OT but once I bought labeler tape at Office Max, then saw the same thing at Costco. Office Max - 1 for $22, Costco: 4 for $28.
I am really tempted to buy one for the convenience, but I can't decide if it's worth paying for something I can get for free at school... :-/ I really want one though. It's not the cost of the laminator that gets me; it's the cost of the pouches. Amazon has 100 for $16, but that still seems like a lot to me...
