The other thread made me curious how many still have a landline.

I don't, and I don't have any plans on getting one. My parents still have one but they never use it for outgoing calls.

I still have one but only because we have terrible cell service where I live. Cell service is just not consistent for me to give up my landline.

We didn't for the first year living together, but then we'd have situations where maybe both our phones died, or his phone was in thec ar and mine was on silent, so people couldn't get in touch with us. It also helps me when i can't fjnd my phone to be able to use the landline for a quick call or to locate my phone. We are in our late 20s.

My gf plans to have a landline because when her son is old enough to get phone calls from friends but not old enohgb for his own phone, she said the friends can call the landline. Plus it allows her to monitor his calls.

Funny thing is the only phone numbers I have memorized are numbers I knew BEFORE i got my first cell phone (so freshman year).

I've always had a landline & probably always will. Plus, I hate talking on my cell when I'm at home due to the bad reception, which is why I don't do it.

We gave up our landline about 10 years ago. I have a love/hate relationship with my cell phone.

    Nope!

I heard that they may actually be doing away with them in Michigan, where my husband's family all lives.

We do, but it's used rarely. Of course, my cell phone isn't used much for phone calls either. I would happily give up our landline, but my husband won't.

We didn't have one for years, but just got one because it was included in our cable and internet package. I don't ever answer it because we only get calls from telemarketers and wrong numbers. I don't even know what the number is without looking.

I cancelled mine a few years ago. I've thought about getting one at one of my homes but haven't done it yet.

We have one because the subfinder service that called with subbing jobs only called land lines. Now that I have been hired and won't be subbing next year we are thinking about dropping it.

My parents have one. I moved out of my parents home for college back in, oh, 2003 I believe, and never had my own landline.

Hubby and I are good about charging our phones and if I misplace my phone, I just head online and use the Find my Phone feature on icloud.com. :)

I do, and it's hooked up to an answering machine - which, in my opinion, is far superior to caller ID in helping one figure out whether or not to pick up.

It's funny you mentioned answering machines because a few nights ago our landline rang (99.999% it's telemarketers) and somehow the external answering machine option kicked in on our phone and it scared the CRAP out of me. I was in the backroom watching t.v. and one minute the phone's ringing, then suddenly i hear a muffled voice (the robotic "no one's home, please leave a message") then a man's loud voice is filling the apartment.

DH was startled too because we're both so used having internal answering machine's that we forgot what an external one sounds like. We immediately put it back on internal after that.

We had a bad hurricane several years ago-electricity was literally out for weeks so we couldn't charge cells except in our cars-but the landlines worked. I also like that they can trace a 911 call from it and can't from a cell. So I still have one. Rarely answer it because it's not a number I give out.

We have a landline for my husbands business, but it is forwarded to his cellphone. When we moved we wanted a phone number for ths locals to call. We don't use it for anything but this.

I haven't had a landline for years. I did have one for a while when I lived in North Dakota, but only because it was cheaper to have phone/internet/cable bundled than to have just internet and cable. I didn't have an actual phone hooked up to it though.

We have a landline ....... My wife and I both also have cells of course.... I seldom "answer" the phone...... normally use it as "outgoing" only ......... Phones in general are a pain in the butt.... ((Just one guy's opinion)...:p

I've never had one. It seems like a waste of money since everyone has cell phones, unless you live in a really rural area where they don't work as well I guess. My parents still have theirs and it's so silly because they both have cell phones with unlimited minutes that they literally use to make a 2 minute phone call maybe once a month. Cell reception in their area is fine, and they get 5-10 telemarketing calls daily on the land line (even though they're on the do not call list). But they will not get rid of the landline because that's what they've always used for calls and there is no reason to change . They literally still have the kind attached to the wall with the cord too:lol:.

Yeah, my mom's required to have one for work - they need to be able to reliably fax warrants to her so she can fill them out along with whatever paperwork they need filled out (commitments, releases, etc.)

The town refuses to pay for the phone line, though.

I never have. My parents did when I lived at home, but as soon as I moved out (like 14 years ago), i got a cell phone and have used that as my main phone ever since.

The closest I have to a landline is my school office phone, and that's through my Cisco router.

We have had the same land line for over 37 years...
-I only give my cell phone number to friends or family. I don't want a million calls during the day.
-I really don't have a close relationship with my cell phone, like some people do.
-It is the number old friends, etc. have.
-The land line works better during emergencies.
-Maybe I am just old fashioned, but I don't feel the need to be in touch 24/7.

We have one because it was cheaper to get a landline with our cable and internet package than to just get cable and internet alone. We use it very rarely, and I regret giving the number to my mother-in-law.

monsieurteacher, let me recommend getting and using an answering machine: one can monitor incoming calls and decide whether or not to pick up, and it tends to deter telemarketers.

We have one, and we don't have any intention of giving it up. We have a fax machine that operates from that number, and we have an office that is operated from our home. The office number needs to be published.

    We have one.
It is bundled with our Internet and cable.
It is also the same number my grandparents had when I was a kid. Kinda sentimental about that, though I'm not sure why.

Nope. Cell service is really reliable here. I only talk on the phone with family and close friends and have a love/hate relationship with it (I love that it goes with me in case of emergencies but I really hate that I get calls ANYWHERE). BF is on the phone constantly but we have an unlimited minutes plan. The landline just seemed like an unnecessary expense for us.
