Please state if you are a private or public school and if you get any $ to spend on your classroom.

Our home and school gives out money.
    We have 13 elementary schools.
I know that many receive nothing, we get $50, another school gets $200, and the other one I know of gets $500!!! So not fair:(
We are public, the district gets us supplies, but no money to spend as we wish.

private-300 (depends on the year and auction) this is for whatever we want then other items are replaced as needed. I will miss this when I switch to public, but have stocked up on a lot of my own stuff over the years.

Public - I get $175 to spend from the district warehouse. Our students don't bring any school supplies. I have to make that cover glue, crayons, construction/drawing paper, markers, tape, etc. for the whole year. It's only about $8 per student, so I end up using a lot of my own $$ too.

However, this is a self-contained life skills class K-5. It's a regional program with 12 students and 6 assistants. I feel very fortunate for all the support I will be getting.

General office supplies are provided by the school and students have a supply list that covers most items that are needed.

I get $185 to order from the district catalog. I have to buy all the paper I will use for copies, ALL OF IT. I also have to provide lined paper, glue, rulers, scissors, etc etc. So after I spent $100 on paper, and another $25 on construction paper, I still don't think I have enough. I spent alot of my own money to make up for the supplies I could not afford out of budget.

    Public-$350

I guess the state of Idaho decided this year to give teachers $350. I might also get $150 from a fundraiser carnival they did last year-the teacher didn't come back so they said I would get his money. I didn't think I'd get anything!

It would have been nice to know before I had already gone out and spent that much money!

You can request funds from our PTO for specific items, but it has to be approved by the principal first and then the PTO board.

private- we get $350, plus another $20 for each child in the class. So $610 this year. But--- our school has no set curriculum except for math. So I buy all guided reading books, science curriculum materials, etc.

public- there's a nice size budget for supplies. Our lovely governor, Sonny Perdue, also wanted to be re-elected a couple of years ago, so he gives us $100 gift card. I'll take it, but I won't vote for him!

It varies from year to year, based on enrollment. I think last year I had a little over $200 to spend. The district supplies texts and white copy paper. If I want new novels or colored copy paper, it comes out of my classroom budget or my own pocket.

wow - that is insane. Do the schools purchase anything at all for classrooms? We manage our own budgets and can purchase anything we want till it's gone!

Do you get to claim what you purchase on tax??

Classroom teachers receive $12.00/student for consumable supplies (paper, pencils, notebooks, glue, paperclips, markers, etc). Non-homeroom teachers (Special Ed, Music, French, etc) receive a department budget to cover all needs. Textbooks, etc. come out of a separate budget. We all receive $50.00 from the parent council.

We can order construction paper, staples, paper clips and anything WE NEED. We don't order like bullitin board sets or nothing like that. Mine usually adds up to around $60-$70. Then, $50 from PTO.

Public- At the end of the year we get $100 to order from catalog any supplies or materials needed for the next school year.
Since I moved to a new grade level this year, I won't get any money since the teacher in this room last year ordered things with the $100. I sure hope he ordered good stuff.

Public. Basic office supplies provided and some room stuff like bb paper, laminating service, etc. P said yesterday that budget has not been given to him, so I don't know what, if any, will be provided for each classroom. I'm still investigating the possibilities of getting classroom sets of novels as what is there is pretty much worn out and dated. I want to teach other stuff. :)

Did get a $100 gift card yesterday to WM from our PDC to "spend as we wish, personal or school." I thought that was pretty cool.

Public 3rd grade $200 to order from the School Board catalogue
Students have supply lists for paper, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, etc. The school supplies copy paper and texts. Interestingly, the classroom in which I am student teaching only has one chalkboard, and no white boards!

(Private) Students provide their own school supplies (per the list), school provides office supplies, bb background paper, free laminating, plus we have die cutting. Then each teacher gets to spend $75 on whatever else they want/need for the classroom. Since I teach computer classes and Yearbook, I don't have great needs in my room. So I used my money for things like a card reader for kids to bring in the digital memory cards full of pictures for the YB. :)

public: What we get depends on how fundraising goes. This year we got $150 to spend on whatever we want. We also have a workroom filled with construction paper, copy paper, die cuts, tape, envelopes, resource books, poster board, and a laminator.

My first year I taught at a school where I got NOTHING...so I feel like I'm in heaven at this school!:woot:

Public - $500 per classroom (plus I get $300 for my 2nd semester mentoring money) we can purchase anything we can use in our classroom. Copies are provided (there is a limit per semester...I have never gone over, so don't know what happens when you go over) laminating is free (do it yourself and at your own risk:lol: it ruins things b/c it wrinkles really badly except for a 12 inch strip down the middle) we do have to fill out a Purchase Order for pre approval, but so far, no problems...

I didn't realize that some schools didn't have classroom money:( Strange to me b/c Arkansas is supposed to be one of the poorest states yet we have more classroom money (not sure how much it varies by district)

No money here! I can tell my principal what I need and they do their best to fill my wish list. Luckily, we have a huge (and I mean HUGE) storage room in our school that has pretty much everything you might need from construction paper to border to bulletin board paper to crayons, etc. But I wish I got a budget to buy things for my classroom! Drawback of working in a really low SES system! Yea for Baltimore City!!!! (I love it, though!)
