than some of the discussions here.. I mean, I have been married for, oh, 10 years or something? Lots of kids (of my own)..

there are several teachers in my building that didn't start teaching until they had already retired from other careers... military, local government, etc..

I am just starting to feel a bit disconnected with a lot of the engagement, getting married threads.. I read them and respond to them because, I remember being so excited at those points in my life, too, and I want to respect those feelings in others.. but I need an old married lady thread or something.. one that is fun, though..

any ideas? :D (I am being just a LITTLE facetious here...)

Alaskanteach I know what you mean. If you want a little humor from a little old married lady follow anything that Grammy posts. I always crack up at her posts. (Shhhh...don't tell her I called her a little old married lady:eek: )

And being married for only 10 years is VERY young...I am going on 20 years this month and several other posters are in that range!

I sometimes feel like an old married lady only because, I am a homebody. I love decorating my home and cooking, etc. (No, I don't have kids right now as you probably guessed by that comment)
Alot of people my age ( thirtysomethings) are already busy chaperoning their kids everywhere.

I've always gotten along much better with those a little older than me anyway. I have a nice diverse age group of friends.:)

    I'm in.

I got married at 30, adopted my son at 40, and then proceeded to get pregnant... twice. So my 6 years home with my kids came after 20 years of teaching.

It's funny at school. They hired a number of teachers in those 6 years. Quite a few were students when I was there; a number were in my math class when they were Seniors. So the kids in the building think I'm a "newbie", but I've taught a number of their teachers.

My brother and sister each have grand daughters. I have a 3 year old.

So, yeah, let's start our very own old married ladies thread.

What do old married ladies talk about??

Alaskanteach, I almost always feel I'm in a different place on this forum. A different planet, actually! Partly it is due to my transition from business world to elementary school teacher, and partly due to my philosophy of parenting and dealing with children in general. As for the old married lady thing, I am in your boat. Married 8 years, two kids, and nostalgic (but not envious) about the days of engagement and wedding.

Even tough I think I am a tad bit older than most, I have been married for 20 years, I feel really young! That is until I walk into my sons high school and look at those kids, then I feel really old! Alice I think we are about the same age.

Well, let's make it interesting: I remember the JKF assasination, but dad had to explain it to me.

I remember the moon shot-- I was at camp. We called it moon day. We had no TV, so we pretty much missed it.

I remember watching the TV and seeing the daily totals of troop losses in Vietnam.

I remember Laugh-In, the Jackie Gleason show, and seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. (I was expecting puppets, like the Topogegio mouse.)

My sister and I argued about who was cuter. She said Ringo. I said Paul. I win.

The Mets won the world series (for the 1st time) on my 11th birthday. They gained a lifelong fan.

I remember all of that! Laugh-In was my favorite. I used to watch it with my dad. I figured out your age Alice, I think we are about 2 years apart. Glad to have someone around that is as young as me!!!

My best friends are about 20 years younger than me. I don't "think" or act old, so maybe that's why. They tell me that I make work "fun" and that makes me happy to hear because I am all about making things as fun as possible.
so Roseio, I am very glad that I make you laugh! I just tell it like it is and that is usually pretty funny! For the most part, I can find humor in EVERYTHING and that has got me in a bit of trouble through the years!
A little old lady, I am. I have been married for 32 years. I don't especially like being married, but it is nice to have someone to talk to. I have more energy than most 20 year olds. I NEVER sit down, except when I get on this darned computer and when I read to my kids at work.

Grammy have you ever considered writing a book? I can see you writing a book about life in a comical way. One that would make a reader laugh and cry at the same time.

My dad was very funny. Now HE should have written a book! He was not a loud clown, but had that dry sense of humor and said/did so many crazy things.
One example. When we were little kids, we had no air conditioning. So, he would put our t.v. in the big picture window and hook up his amplifier for sound OUTSIDE and we would all sit outside and watch t.v. at night. Pretty soon all the neighbors would come over and sit in our lawn with us. Sometimes he would get on his microphone and call all the neighbors to come over, calling them by name. If they didn't come right out, he would keep calling them until they did.
Another thing he did. When it was raining and thundering, he would get on the roof (but we didn't know) and we would come out to play in the rain. He would throw potatoes down and we thought they were coming from the sky. Talk about life experiences. Those were priceless.

Another OML (old married lady) here! It'll be 25 years this summer for us.

And I feel so lucky today; my beloved husband was in a head-on car crash in the upper peninsula of MI last night, but he is alright, out of the hospital now, and on his way home with our friend he was visiting. Savor every minute.

As for favorite food: mashed potatoes and gravy!!

Missy I am glad your hubby is OK. Was it weather related? My son will be driving to the UP tomorrow and I am worried about the roads.

Yes, it was due to the heavy snow and wind at the time. He was near Newberry. He said the roads are fine today, so I hope your son doesn't have any difficulties.

I am sure you will be giving him a big hug when he gets home. Keep your fingers crossed for me that the roads up there will be OK, at least until tomorrow evening.

I'm so glad he is okay, Missy.

Okay, can I join in? I was married for 22 years before being widowed 5 years ago.

My favorite food is spaghetti. I remember most of the things Alice mentioned, but memory is not my strong point. The 70's wiped it out.

I think I have all of you beat. Yes, even you, grammy teacher. I have been married for ....28 years. Of course, here in Pa. they let you get married as very young children. Ha. I think we really need an old lady thread.
My favorite food is chicken and waffles.

Alice, I remember everything on your list! And my favorite food - ice cream! Really good ice cream that is! Graeter's is the best I have found!

When I was in 7th. grade, they announcement was made about Kennedy's assassination. One boy laughed and got sent to the principal's office.
I remember sitting in the living room watching the Beetles on t.v. for the first time ever. My dad was laughing and sang "I Wany Hold Your Hand" for weeks.
I remember when Russia and the U.S. were close to war and they were telling us how to build our radiation shelters. My parents talked about it. Our basement was small and icky and I was worried.
When I was very small I would go shopping at the local small town grocery store with my mom. They had these cookie glass cookie jars on a stand and you would reach right in and take the cookies you wanted, no gloves. Groceries were always put into boxes. There were no paper bags and certainly no PLASTIC.
We had a small metal box outside our door and that is where my parents would leave the 'MILKMAN' a note as to how many bottles of milk to leave. Later, that changed to cartons of milk. He came a couple of times a week. No one bought their milk at the store. It was always delivered.
I was 18 in 1970 and moved away. When I would come home for a visit clad in my hippie clothes, bare foot and long wild hair, the olden days of youth seemed so distant. Now I think it must have been a dream.
