do they make you want to go running to the beach and bury your head in the sand in denial? I normally miss the structure of school and get excited, but I'm having so much fun with my kids doing summer fun things that I want it to last forever.
I don't buy things for my classes, only for my own kids. So I see the sales as a chance to stock up and save some money. Of course, it always costs a FORTUNE, so Peter doesn't see it exactly the same way. In this part of the country, summer isn't even half over yet. So the sales don't signal the end of summer around here. It's the "bathing suits for sale in February" phenomenon.
I only care for buying some new work clothes, being the shopper that I am, but other than that, I wouldn't say I get excited about other back-to-school shopping.
Definitely excited. This will be my first year of teaching (third), so I'm eager to get started! Lord keep me away from the school supplies in Walmart! It's become hard to resist the sales.
Alice, you're on the ball! :thumb: I did get some silver Ticonderoga brand pencils & nice erasers for when I have to do my assessments of the students. Also some nice, thick-ink pens. Yes, I could use the pencils/erasers already there, but I want to use my own "special" items!
I went school shopping at the mall yesterday, mainly for back to school clothes. But I went to Target and I got some great deals on crayons, binders, notebooks, etc. The feeling of Back To School is the best... I cannot explain it!
This is my first year in 20 years to not have a student at home both sons have now graduated college (proud mommy!) so there isn't much I'll buy at the BTS sales...plus I still have weeks and weeks of beach time ahead!
Our back to school sales won't start for awhile yet; school doesn't start until after Labour Day. Home is always well-stocked with pens, pencils, paper, bristol board, glue, markers, etc. (although, I guess I won't be needing all that here in the fall). I may buy things for school that I'm not able to order through our school order, but there's nothing I need to get.
You could always stock up, then send Lauren a mid-semester CARE package when you suspect her supplies are low.
both of mine are now in college so I do not buy from the BTS sales unless there is something there that I really really want.
I *love* school supplies so the BTS sales leave me giddy! Even if I pay full price. I love the smell of new things, new patterns/colors etc to enjoy... I am antsy to start shopping myself, but trying to restrain myself as son will be attending a different district this year and I have no idea what he needs for 3rd grade yet. I know if I shop for me, then he'll want to buy stuff too. I love going back to school as well, new clothes, new faces, new supplies. Most kids are super excited and I love every minute of it!
For me, it's a bit of both. I love the idea of a new year full of possibilities and the new supplies symbolize a fresh start to me, but I also dread the long hours, neverending meetings, and students who feel entitled to good grades while putting forth minimal effort.
I love school supply sales. I'm usually excited for the school year, and since the sales start a 1 1/2 months before school starts back I don't feel like time is running out. If they started 1-2 weeks beefore school I might feel differently!
I get excited! I don't really buy too many supplies for my classroom, but I love the feeling of back-to-school time. I also love to stock up on binders. I loooooove a nice Avery binder. I am definitely not ready to go back, but I love this time of year.
Hi friends at A to Z. My name is mary and I have an addiction to school supplies. I have 3 stacking crates in the guest room with my school supply stash. I sent the boys to college with a collection of 10 cent notebooks. They replenish before spring semester. I buy some things for the classroom, but much of it still stays here. It was great when the kids were younger. They weren't the kind who planned ahead for projects (don't get me started on those crafty type projects) so my stash of supplies bailed them out on many occasions.
"Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charms" ~ You've Got Mail
I am GIDDY!!!! Always have been, as a student or a teacher. Let me tell you though...I have spent so little this year! Moving to 6th proved to be easier on the wallet than 2nd or 3rd ever was. I have 15 Rubbermaid bins of crap I bought for primary and 2 plastic bags of stuff for 6th. Moving stuff in will be super easy. Now as for what to do with the rest of this, I don't know. I don't want to be a teacher hoarder, but I could move back down one day too. *Sigh!*
I stopped by the local teacher supply store today (actually--the closest one is an hour away). Picked up $80 worth of goodies! I only have a few more odds 'n ends to purchase to be ready for the start of school, though. So yes--I get excited about the back-to-school sales!
I love school supplies. I love a new school year. The only anxiety I get is that I wish I had done more over the summer to prepare (and I've worked on something for my classroom almost every day this summer!) New school year for me means a new group of students (juniors) and a return of great students (seniors). It means football games. It means Homecoming. I love it!
I love school supplies. On the other hand, it's hard reminding myself that I don't need crayons or colored pencils or a million cute notebooks. Actually, I don't need much for my classes this year. FINALLY!
Even when the kids actually do bring their supplies, we go through some of the very quickly. I always buy some extra crayons and glue sticks while they are on sale for .15 instead of having to pay 10 times that when we actually need them. I buy folders to use for their journals too-when we ask for them on our list we just get too many varieties. I'm torn too. My vacation just officially started this week-so I am nowhere near ready to think about going back yet!
I don't buy many supplies for my classroom anymore-it got too expensive! However, I positively drool over the packs of mechanical pencils on sale this time of year. I will buy 3-4 of them and that should last me through the year....
I love school supplies. I can't wait to go shopping for my own kids and my classroom. I always look forward to fall, the beginning of a new school year and football season!
I love back to school supplies. I buy a ton of stuff for my classroom, then my two sons and my sister's four kids get to "shop" through my supplies for their back to school stuff. They love it too.
