    Folks,
CA dept of ed released the list of distinguished schools. What does this mean to those schools or how those schools get benefited? I mean, are those schools exempted from taking standardized tests for APY purposes next year or so? Explain please..thanks.

It means you get to call yourself a Distinguished School and hang a plaque in the district office. There's no real benefit. Good for local real estate, though.

    Thank you for the reply.
    But that's BS, isn't it?
So students take standardized tests for 3-5 days for nothing for them and they give distinguished school recognition for nothing. WOW!!!!!

Actually, the Distinguished School application is a lot of work, and they don't just hand them out. Your school has to have real merit in order to receive it. Mine is a CA Distinguished School and a National Blue Ribbon School; this bolsters our reputation, which is good for our students when they apply to college.

Gee, the high school I used to teach at made the "Persistently Dangerous Schools List" every year. It didn't take much work on our part, at all.

I can't remember if we got a plaque to hang in the main office, or not.

We got our 2nd award in 3 or 4 years this year and we are planning an ice cream party for the kids... that's it.
