BEcause we're staying at a Disney hotel, they do Disney Magical Express: we check our bags at JFK (or whichever local airport we leave from) and next see them in our rooms. The same thing happens on our return trip. Disney also provides a bus. When we went before kids, we rented a car and drove an hour to Cape Canaveral to see the Space Center. It was amazing!!! But with kids this young, I can't really see us needing a car; we don't really plan to leave Disney property. Those of you who know me probably know that I'm going to be as psycho about this as I have been all summer about prepping for school. I'm already lining up restaurants and some special treats (like having a diver with a banner appear while we eat at the Coral Reef in Epcot...it's free, but you need to arrange for it ahead of time.)
Well, I'm one of those "psycho-scary" people. I'm a devoted DISboards member, I actually am a mod there, I was married at Disney World, I'm a Disney Vacation Club Member, Annual Passholder, and take trips with my husband and sometimes parents up to 3 times a year. Being devoted to it is what saves me thousands of dollars for luxury vacations and those trips are the happiest times in our lives. We share the info that we have gathered over the years of our devotion in hopes of helping others who wish to have the same quality vacations that we do. Best of luck, and have a nice trip.
Not all of us are psycho-scary.....we just love Disney....maybe we love it a little too much...and i am only 40 min from Disneyland so I am there all the time!!!!!!!!
i wish i could but kids are 4 3 2 1 and newborn when they get older we"re going big mickey fan plus i wanna see sea world
No, guys I honestly meant no offense.. I joined too. But sometimes you read a post that just makes you wonder, you know?? How their trip was ruined because "mousekeeping" didn't make mouse ears out of a washcloth, or about the absolute necessity of a particular room or something.
Alice, I just wanted to chime in- my husband and I ate at Alfredo's (at Epcot in Italy, obviously) for our anniversary (no kids) and we had a blast! It was more the atmosphere than the food, there was singing and dancing all through dinner. Just thought I'd let you know!
Alice, that would be the resorts board. I don't frequent it much. BTW, I thought I would point out that Alfredo's is now closed and is being replaced with another Italian place, but I don't know what the name will be.
I originally posted this on another thread, but realized it was becoming a hijack: edited to add: We're going to be on the dining plan, and I understand that restaurant reservations NEED to be booked 6 mohths in advance. Here's my tentative agenda... subject to change.(My son will be 10, my daughters 8 and 5) I'm thinking that each day we'll head back to the hotel pool for a few hours in the early afternoon. I'm planning to order lots of cereal and breakfast fixings from gardengrocer, so breakfasts (with the exception of the Akerhaus princess breakfast) will be in the hotel room. Tues: arrive, hang at pool, Counter Service dinner at Magic Kingdom Weds: morning: MK evening: Epcot, dinner at Coral Reef (hopefully with a diver) Thurs: morning: Epcot, Akerhaus princess breakfast evening: MK Fri: morning: hang out at pool early afternoon: MGM, Fantasmic dinner package @ Hollywood & Vine Sat: morning: Animal Kingdom evening: early dinner @ Chef Mickeys, then MK Sun: morning: Disney Downtown (maybe lunch @ Wolfgang Puck Express) evening: Epcot: dinner at Le' Cellier Mon: leave for home, maybe quick hop to MK
We went almost two years ago, and the meal plan was amazing. We also saved about $400 with the plan, and we never, never felt like we were being skimpy with food. As a matter of fact, we had a bunch of "snack points" left over when we left, and the hotel loaded us up with sodas and snacks for the plane. The only time we didn't us it was breakfast at the Crystal Palace (which, may I add, was DELISH). That meal counted as two, since it is very popular, but it was only about $65 for our family. Our dinner in Mexico (Epcot) was $145 for the family, and only counted as one meal each. Kim
As far as food, I've found you can't go bad with dinner in Epcot. We stayed at the Beach Club once, and it was within walking distance of Epcot, so we ate there every night. All of us loved the Japanese steakhouse, the Mexican place, the English Pub (which, if you can get a late-night outdoors table, has the best view of the fireworks show that you can possibly imagine) and the Italian place. On other trips, we have eaten at the Lady and Tramp-themed Italian place on Main Street in MK, the Colonial-themed family style restaurant in MK, the 60's diner in MGM, and, of course, breakfast with the princesses in the castle. My girls were 2 and 4 that year, and it was the highlight of their trip. Kim
