This school year will be my first teaching 5th grade. All my experience with children has been with lower elementary kids. I'm a tad nervous about what to expect though I'm very excited about it. Does anyone have any ideas for a discipline plan that works with older kids? I really like the Love and Logic approach but am not sure how to apply that with fifth graders since that is not my experience. Any ideas?

I am in the same boat! I have been told that I most likely will not need one with this group of kids...but I feel like I really need to have something set in stone for my own sake! I am planning on re-reading Love and Logic and using some of their principles. I also think that for my plan I am just going to be simple- 1 warning, 2 note home about rule broken from student 3 call parent.

I really wanted to try the economy system but I think I might wait and do that closer in as an economics activity because we have a Biz town field trip in November.

I use Fred Jones's methods with my fifth grade and never have a problem.
