well, i broke down and called the city school that i interviewed for. they told me that they filled the upper grade, but might have a 1st grade available. i don't want it, but i'll have to if it's all i can get. oh, they might not even have that either because their numbers are low. UGH!!

oh well...this is how it's been for the last two years. it doesn't even phase me anymore!!! :tired:

I'm so sorry you didn't get the position you wanted. I bet there is something even better waiting out there for you, you just haven't found it yet.

I am so sorry to hear that you didn't get the position you wanted. I too, am waiting for something to turn up. I was hoping I could be working on my classroom over the summer instead of looking for a job. If I were you I would take the first grade positon if they offer it to you. You might only have it for a year before something else opens up or you might find out you like first grade after all. I am trying to decide if I want to apply to the city schools in my area. They have a lot of positions listed right now.

Don't worry you will get what you need in the end. Good things come to those who wait. You will be excellent, this just shows you that you have determination, tenacity, and the dedication to keep going. I wish you all the luck in the teacher world and beyond

As you can see from my name...I just want a Chance to Teach. I graduated in May (a non-trad student, married with children), have had two interviews and didn't get either one. I have spent all summer looking for a job and the phone will not ring. Everyone keeps saying "Don't worry, the perfect job for you will come" but so far, it is very discouraging! I too had planned to spend the summer getting my classroom ready and getting to know the curriculum, but nothing has been as I expected.

It is very discouraging... But the old cliche is actually right. I substitute taught (forever it seemed like), taught in 2 different private schools, worked as a parapro in computer lab with a masters, and worked with 16-24 year old delinquents who had a choice to be @ the center where I taught or go to jail for 5 to 10 (all in Kentucky). In none of those was I really TOTALLY happy. Out of the blue I got offered a job here in Georgia, it was the best thing that could have happened to me, and I love teaching 2nd grade. However, the one thing that is very important is DON'T GIVE UP!!!

Thank you! I won't give up! If there is one thing I know about myself is that I am no quitter. I will also substitute teach this fall if I don't get a job. I just love being where the kids are and after working at another career, I know I was meant to teach. So...I will keep my chin up and wait on "that perfect job!" Thanks again!

Remember, too... make sure people know you're looking... sometimes positions come up and they aren't necessarily announced... but if someone hears bout it and knows you're looking, that can help. ;)

    Hang in there

Hang in there!! I'm in the same boat (came from a different career, thought I'd have a classroom by now) What part of Tx are you from? I am in central TX just north of San Antonio and this area seems to be growing but not fast enough for me to get a job!!! Let me know how its coming on your end and I will keep you posted about my end(if you want to). Keep keeping your chin up, things have a way of working themselves out for the best, even if it doesn't feel like at the present time.

    Good Luck - Jen

Thanks Jen! I live in West Texas, near Lubbock. These very small rural schools are not doing well and the school my children go to will not even replace teachers that leave. :( I wish you all the luck and please do keep me posted on your job search. I do believe that the jobs are there for us...I've asked God for patience! ;) Keep in touch!

This might turn out to be a blessing in disguise! You might find out that you really love working with younger kids if you get the first grade position. I have bounced around so many times with what I like most. At first it was primary ages then during student teaching (5th) I liked the older grades. Now that I was hired to work with first, I couldn't be more excited. I think you'll adjust and do great with any level! Remember, to stay positive. It can't hurt to keep checking in every few weeks to see what they are doing with the new position.
