I don't see a big issue here. Basically, they just restylized the characters in an elongated fashion illustration style: appropriate enough for the context.

They changed the entire look and feel of the illustration, they didn't just reduce Minnie's dress size.

I'm not saying I *like* the images, but I wouldn't compare them to airbrushing the hips off of already size 0 models.

It doesn't even look like her anyway. It think it would be more of a problem if they made the REAL Minnie (the ones who walked around Disney) anorexic looking.

I just don't know why they have to do this to characters we know to look a certain way. I think there are enough images of being super skinny out there...

I guess what bothers me is this quote.

"Addressing such concerns, Barneys' creative director Dennis Freedman admitted to WWD: 'The standard Minnie Mouse will not look so good in a Lanvin dress. There was a real moment of silence, because these characters don’t change.' 'I said, "If we’re going to make this work, we have to have a 5ft 11in Minnie," and they agreed. When you see Goofy, Minnie and Mickey, they are runway models.'"

Uhhh, if you have to be 5'11" stick thin to look good in the dress, maybe you need to rethink your ad campaign - Minnie Mouse might not be the best choice for that.

Silver...good point... funny thing is any character doesn't have realistic dimensions...LOL!!!!

I love that Minnie is a fun lovable size... I can't imagine going to Disney and seeing skinny characters....

    RE: Goofy

Wow, you look really handsome and manly in those skinny jeans.

    Said no one, ever.

Uggg I just had a flashback of a guy I saw in skinny jeans at work (student teacher). I wanted to wash my eyes with lye.

I do NOT like the message it sends.. that only tall thin people look good in those clothes.

Not because they're changing Disney; the current Mickey Mouse has seen a number of changes over the years.

If only the very tall and thin look good in your clothes, then they're not going to be worn off the runway.

Re- the pictures: I don't think they're that bad. They're making them modern, whatever. I don't like them, but I'm not upset either.

Re- skinny jeans on men: I don't like skinny jeans, but I do like tighter than baggy jeans. I finally convinced my boyfriend to buy some fitted jeans and he looks HOT in them!

Looking hot !? Studies have said that tight clothing on men is not beneficial to the reproductive organs of a man. The body heat, and restriction of movement can cause everything from sterility to Cancer.

I have a feeling this thread just took a totally different spin.

I just don't want to see anyone's boxer shorts/underwear, see their crack, or see a pocket that is mid-leg rather than on the butt. They don't have to be skin tight but they don't need to look like you can drive a mini van between the guy's parts and the jean material.

As for the new Minnie, I have a strong dislike. Not only do I not like the skinny image only idealism but mostly I just don't like that they took a young Minnie that is meant for kids and made her look a lot older. Same with the other characters.

This campaign is clearly not aimed at children. They are not replacing the originals. I've seen things like this done before. It's art, and it's not a big deal to me.
