So my interview went well today. Wanted to give me a tour of the school. Seemed very interested...BUT did not ask for my references.
    Hmmm...

I sent a thank you note today but should I e-mail the P back and ask if my reference phone numbers are needed?
I don't want to seem too pushy.

This is in Virginia? Why would they ask you for references when you already did the forms and applications?

    Fairfax...
I did the application but Fairfax told me not to submit anything or do my references until I got hired.
So I don't know. I need to call them tomorrow.

This is what the website says:
If you are recommended for hiring by a principal, an employment specialist will contact you with more specific information. At that time you will need to submit the following documents:

    * College or university transcripts
    * Two current, professional references. For new teachers, references from your cooperating teacher and university supervisor are required
    * Copies of your licenses and endorsements (if issued)
    * A copy of a negative tuberculin test administered within the last 12 months
    * Original social security card in your legal name (copies cannot be accepted)
    * A copy of your Praxis test scores (if taken)

I don't understand why they do references after the recommendation for hiring. I am in the same positon right now, where I was offered the job and now have to have the refs called and be approved by the board.

I would just relax. I thought the Fairfax online application required the forms like all the other counties. If they say they don't need them until after hiring, then just don't sweat it. Roll with the process!

I know I need to just roll with the process....only thing is I know someone who got hired last year and they called the references the same day and then offered the position.
    HMMM....
You know everything is going through my hear right now. Just want everything to work out.

MsBee, breathe. I am so glad that the interview went well and hope that you hear from them in the next few days. When did they say you should know something.

To my knowledge they did not contact my references before I was recommended for hire. I had to bring some papers into HR which included 2 recs. So I wouldn't worry too much right now about them having not contacted your references.

They contacted mine after I offered a job by the P and then, I was formally offered a contract by the head of HR. My refs were contacted the day after the initial offer. My refs were in school so it was pretty easy.

Well hopefully I know something by the end of the week. They said to call or e-mail 3-5 days if I have not heard anything...so...is Friday long enough or should I wait until Monday?!!!!

    :)

You are already contemplating that they are not going to call... Let's catch our breath and think that they WILL call. Your blood pressure must be way up. You need a day off of job hunting. Meet you for lunch in Dallas. My treat. :)

I do need a day off!!!
Okay they will call. I'll just wait and see. If they don't then I'll come back to the threads then.
I'm just going to enjoy my time here in Va and stop worrying so much. Its going to happen when its time to happen.

(but really that recommendation thing had me worried!!)

Did you take them up on their offer to give you a tour of the school?

Yes...but the janitors had boxes everywhere so it would be impossible.
I am thinking of sending an e-mail asking if I can come back while I am here to take the tour instead.
    Is that a good idea?

Because they generally only call references for candidates in whom they are interested. I do include a few letters of rec in my portolio which I pass around at interviews, but my district wanted all NEW reerences when I was hired so I had to call my former administrators and get them to write new ones.

Well they seemed interested in me. It just makes no sense that they would call after they recommend you for hire!
    I don't know.

They call references as part of the 'hiring'...We saw candidates we liked who we had on our 'list' of possibilities for hire, but then narrowed that list to only one or two that we reallly WANTED to hire...Our principal calls when we are down to those final one or two...THEN those candidates go to the Superintendant for an interview.
