    Hello all,

Are the diary of a wimpy kid books are books students should be reading for character and thematic work?

I learned there is a spectrum. Educational to delight. I think Diary of A Wimpy Kid falls to the delight side of the spectrum and could be used to get students to enjoy reading but in my opinion would not be used to teach character and thematic work.

No idea but my 9 year old grand daughter loves them.

Kids could definitely do a character study in the Wimpy Kids books.

I'm not really find of them -- mainly because my middle son failed to develop in reading as well as I thought he should because he read these obsessively--as in, to the exclusion of all else.

I, on the other hand, remember them fondly, since they were among the first books that my son would read without being forced to. He went on to be a strong reader, but started as a weak reader. I am grateful for those "just right" books his teacher found to bolster interest and confidence.
