Start with a song that includes all their names, for example (to the tune of Farmer In The Dell)
    Name 1 is here today,
    Name 2 is here today,
    Everybody clap your hands,
    Name 3 is here today,
(Etc. Until you get to all their names. If uneven, I end with "everybody clap your hands, we're all here today!")
Kids love songs with their names in it!
That should take a good few minutes and the kids are interacting with you and waiting to hear their own name.
    K, that's all I got. Lol. I can't think right now, sorry

I like that, ChildWhisperer! I'm going to have my own class for the first time starting next week and am in a panic about how to organize my room, schedule our day, etc. (just got hired at the end of last week). I'm borrowing this!

Love this! I'd follow up with an art activity. Maybe something where pairs or groups work together on something?
