So I've branched out my job search, to Pre-K... and this is a very unfamiliar territory for me. The area I am originally from isn't a plenty with places like this. How do I ensure that I'm not applying for "daycare" positions where I will inevitably be changing diapers?
Pick an age group - 3-4 year olds. If it accommodates anyone younger, you'll be up to your elbows in poo. Plus, there's nothing wrong with calling first. You don't have to say you're looking for a position. Just ask what kind of facility it is - is it primarily a school or daycare?
so if positions are for "toddlers" and I will be required to do lesson plans my options are probably good then... yay or nay?
I was a lead toddler teacher at a preschool. I was required to write lesson plans as well as change diapers. My class was 2-2 and 6 months then they went to the potty training class. So I agree with chebrutta aim for 3 and up.
The pre-K I am in is only 4 and 5 year olds. So just look at job descriptions, some will say pre-K (in my experience 4 year olds), some will say preschool ( 3-5 year olds). I wouldn't take any toddler positions because you will be changing diapers and worrying about more "daycare" related stuff.
you know, i was thinking about this recently... why are they allowed to call daycare workers teachers if they are not teaching....there should be rules.... i have no qualms with daycare programs that are structured and hire teachers--certified or not. BUT, if it is babysitting job, just say it!
