I currently teach a non-formal dance class for an after school program in my area for children 1-7th grade. I was recently asked to do a dance class for 2-6 yr olds and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for dances/props for this age group?

kids love using ribbons...perhaps you could incorporate them for ribbon dancing. You can order them or make our own...using a dowel and ribbon.

Scarves are great & pretty expensive. You can get them through PE stores like Gopher, music stores like Music in Motion, Discount School Supply, or even Amazon.

You can also use balloons, ribbons, and balls.

I taught preK and used the CD below. It is awesome and involves dancing kids being creative.

You may even be able to do simple square dancing with stomps, claps, circle around, etc...

My DDs went to PS dance classes. The teacher used cute poetry and/or songs. I will have to ask them if they remember what they did, as I can't remember the details.
