As many of you know I am thinking about implementing the Daily 5 fully in my classroom next year. This year I used some of the concepts-read to self-read to buddy-writing but I also have other centers sprinkled in. I have so many items that I purchased at the store that do not fit in with Daily 5. I have lacing beads blending games concentration games sight words activities How do you use the things you have like this when you are using Daily 5 in your classroom?
I would think so. Reading sight words is an important part of fluency. Without fluency, comprehension suffers.
I agree. Maybe you could designate certain days/weeks for sight word activities, or even add it as a separate session.
Word work in my kindergarten classroom consisted of anything that had to do with words: sight words, phonics, learning letters and sounds-anything!
LIke the others, word work. I also sometimes allow my students to read sight words during 'read to self' and 'read to someone'.
