I am looking for a cute and inexpensive gift idea to put in the mailboxes of my teacher friends at school (on the first day for a little pick-me-up). Anyone have any cute ideas?

    Thanks!

I keep meaning to give my co-workers a water bottle with a custom label for a RAK. I did these for my wedding (for out-of-town guest welcome bags). You can order custom labels, but I just designed my own and printed them out at home. Here is a website of some fancy dancy ones:

A co-worker gave everybody some "marbles" in their box with a note that read something like this, "here are some marbles for when you lose yours".
    cute!

I'd print a poem, some nice sayings, or a devotional for teachers if I was giving out to a number of friends. I may try that this year for people I know really well. :)

Someone here printed a really inspirational story about starfish and making a difference to "just one." I typed that out, added clip art, and found cute little starfish pads and erasers. I also am going to buy some Vitamin Water for them (Energy or Revive or Relax flavored), and put all of those things in a basket from the dollar store...

Yep, that was me! :D I went to California and got some little starfish while I was there. I glued a magnet to the back, and I'm giving them that with the poem. I think you can get starfish at Michaels?

I usually give my team members a box of Whoppers with a note saying "Here's to a Whopper of a year!"

A fellow teacher gave me the starfish poem with a pin attached. Teachers at that school wore a lot of pins on their lanyards.

You can also get the starfish erasers (in a pack of 4 for $1) and notepads ($1) each at Michael's. That's where I found mine.

How about one of the following:

Buy a ruler for each teacher. Place Nestle's Treasures candy in a little square of netting or lace and tie it closed with pretty ribbon. Attach to the ruler with a note that says, "You're a Treasure Beyond Measure!"

Animal Crackers (Attach a note that says, 'This place would be a zoo without you!')

Heart shaped soap (Attach a note that says, 'It's obvious you have a heart for kids and I appreciate you for it!')

Recipe Cards or Small Recipe Book (Attach a note that says, 'You've got all the ingredients of a great teacher!')

Here's the starfish poem...I used it in my senior exit portfolio and love it!

    THE STARFISH POEM

Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing.

He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day he was walking along the shore.

As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer.

He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day.

So he began to walk faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?"

The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."

"I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"

"The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die."

"But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said-

"It made a difference for that one."
