If this is too personal please don't respond!!

I am curious to see what the difference in teacher salaries around the country. Can you tell us what a beginning teacher, with a BS and no experience would make in your area. Also say if it is urban, suburban or rural??

I am teaching in an inner-city public charter school in Pittsburgh, PA. I have a master's degree and I am a first year teacher. My starting salary will be $34,000. Most public schools in the Pittsburgh area/suburbs start between $30,000 - $40,000, depending on the school district/tax base.

I teach in the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati Area. Beginning salaries differ quite a bit. Some are as low as 27,003. Others are as high as 32,096. That's for a first year with only bachelor's degree teacher.

the state mandated base is 27,500 with (I think) $450 incriments yearly.
Some districts start as much as 31,000 several are at base. (straight out of school)

The school I work at is rural and base is 27,500 but incrimnets are $500.

I live in a pretty rural area, and the starting salaries range from $28000 to $30000 with a bachelor's degree. The school that I will be teaching at is in a decent sized town about 25 mi. from my home. The starting pay with a bachelor's degree is $30609.

This is interesting. I always thought that teachers in other parts of the country got paid a lot more than teachers do here. I see now that there really isn't that big of a difference.

I dont think the starting salaries differ that much at all. If you look at the avg. salary for the states some may be higher or lower than others, but that could just be because some places have more veteran teachers than other places do which would bring up the average.

IN recent years our salaries have been increased to come closer to the national average. We're no longer bottom of the barrel as we have been in the past!!!

The pay for BA w/no exp is $28,724.60
The pay for MA w/no exp is $31,606.10
Being national board certified you get more

I live in Missouri and the salaries range as low as $24,000 - $37,000 for a first year teacher. It is also important to include your retirement funds and benefits. Some states have great programs while others do not. Around here the lower salaries are in rural areas and higher paying schools tend to be in the urban "city schools".

    salary scale

One thing to keep in mind is that the dollar is not equal everywhere. In California, a simple ranch house can set you back close to a million dollars in certain areas. Costs of living vary greatly depending on region....

In Minnesota, the range can be anywhere from $26,000 to $36,000 depending on your district. If you live more towards the twin cities area, the more you make. I am in a large town (about 20,000) and starting salary with no experience, credits, etc is $33,000.

I will be teaching in a suburban district in southern California starting in the fall. My starting pay with a B.A. and no experience is $42,000. But like a previous poster said the dollar is not equal across the country.

I haven't check (and don't remember!) my starting salary, but I'm on year 9 in central Lousiana (LaSalle parish). It's a rural setting. My salary last year was around $28,000 (with supplements for tech coord/webmaster, and LEAP afterschool tutoring). The scale in Louisiana ranges widely. We have "oil parishes" that have a much higher salary, and then parishes (mainly along the coast) that have much lower.

Here in Canada, I believe we start around $35 000 (depending on education also - more for a masters, etc..). You can max out at 12 years and the top salary is about 76 000. Nothing to complain about really. :)

In Manitoba (also in Canada) it is slightly different.

All teachers are required to have a Bachelor of Education degree, these are called "Class 4" teachers. As of (I think) 2002, all teachers graduating are required to have a B.A. or B.Sc. and a B.Ed. degree. These are Class 5 teachers.

These teachers start at $42,000.00/ year with a $3000.00/ year increase. This scale tops at $66,000.00.

With each additional degree teachers increase class level which means an increase in salary as well.

I live in South Dakota, which has had the lowest average teacher salaries in the US for several years now. In Sioux Falls, where I teach, we didn't even receive a step increase this year, just a nominal cost of living increase. Many teachers will actually earn less this year than last because of increasing health insurance premiums. And they wonder why so many of our ed grads leave the state...

I teach in Ewing, NJ which is in Central Jersey and right outside of Trenton and not far from Philadelphia, PA.

For the 2005-06 school year, the starting salary bachelors with no exp is $40,250. Bachelors plus 30 credits/CEU and no exp is $42050. Masters with no exp is $44150. Masters plus 30 credits/CEU and no exp is $45650. PhD's get an additonal $3000 on top of the masters plus 30 level. You can also earn longevity pay if you spend at least 15 years with the district. You can earn $2K to $6K more each year with that.

I'm starting at Step 1, no experience, etc, with a Bachelor's in the northern suburbs of Chicago at around $37,000... which is higher than MANY other districts in the area... it TOTALLY depends on the specific district around here.

    Salaries

I have just finished my first year of teaching in a district in Southeastern PA, near the DE border. My salary for Bachelors+15 was about 34, 750. Next year, I will be getting a raise for finishing my Masters and a step raise to about 37, 00. Other districts pay more or less depending on thier level of affluence.

It changes every year in my district, however, in Washington, starting salary for BA no experience is $30,023. Plus, our district adds $2,935 to that for responsibility contracts...

I don't know how some other states do it, but we have a scale that moves down with up a person maxing out at 16 years. Plus, there are 8 steps across that you can move that changes with the credits/clock hours you earn.

I teach in an urban area...
