How many of you are going to be watching Sunday night/Monday morning as Curiosity lands? I will be! :) Monday is my first official day back. All day inservice, and I'm going to be dead tired for it. :D
Here's the youtube video about the landing. Some of the engineers involved in creating Curiosity shared the video with us in Houston and talked about the challenges. It was really interesting getting their "behind the scenes" point of view. Seven Minutes of Terror

The landing is going to be shown live on NASA tv. Can't wait! I won't have kids until that Friday, but we will be watching videos and talking about this huge step NASA is taking.

NPR recently interviewed one of the physics engineers working on the project. It was really interesting because of his history with academics. He was never interested in school, but eventually went to community college after becoming curious about the stars one night. His physical description and personality didn't fit my idea of a NASA engineer at all!

They will be streaming it. I don't get NASA tv either, but will be watching online. Myrisophilist, that's one thing we enjoyed when the engineers spoke to us. You could picture just how they were in the classroom. They talked about not being the smartest in class, or the highest grades, but something sparking their interest. Loved hearing about them and excited to share with my students.
