It is possible to take all three CTEL sub-tests in one session. Or they can be taken one at a time. Does anybody have any insight as to which way is better? It's cheaper to take them in a single session. But if someone has done that and able to report on how gruesome it was, and if they would do it differently, I'd appreciate the advice.

    FYI...
It may be possible to schedule a single session to take all three tests. But it is much harder to find an available time at a test center. Practically speaking, it's much easier to spend the money and extra days to sit three different times.

Hi. Is CTEL required by CTC or school district. I didn't found it from the requirments of a preliminary or a clear teaching credential, but I saw many school district ask for it. Do you have any suggestions for preparation materials? I am planning to study it. Thank you.

Not having taken the CTELs yet, I don't have reliable preparation materials recommendations. I may know more in December, when results for tests in progress now come out.

I think the idea is that, if you are teaching any classes that include ELLs, you need the ELL authorization. Since English is not the first language for 25% of California students, it is, for practical purposes, a requirement for public schools.

Thank you very much. I decided either take courseworks or pass CTEL exams.

I passed all the CTEL subtests. To reduce stress and optimize place and time, I took each on a separate day. I used study.com and 240tutoring.com, and I found both of those to be useful. Both have a decent sized question banks with the questions being fairly on point.

I also used examedge.com, but I would not recommend that one. The questions did not seem to be as high quality as those on the sites above, and the sample tests combined all three subtests in one.

The above sites are NOT free. But lots less expensive than classes.

Of course, the official preparation materials, https://www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/CA_CTEL_PrepMaterials.html, are essential. In among all that stuff, a few other CTC documents are referenced, including:
    https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/rl/cf/documents/elaeldfwintro.pdf (a short book of 1084 pages)

The below, specifically chapter seven, is referenced. But it was very difficult to find:
    http://iseesam.com/content/teachall/text/reading/framework/readframework.pdf

That seemed to be the most useful stuff to me. But there are other documents referenced in the material that were also of interest. Everybody is going to have different gaps to fill.
