Hello - My husband and I are looking to apply for teaching jobs in CT. When does the hiring season typically begin? We will be applying at public schools in and around Litchfield county. He is 7-12 math and I'm 7-12 Social Studies & K - 12 ESL, both NY state certified. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
i'm also in CT, in New Haven. Typically, February and March we'll see the anticipated openings for the following school year. May is another wave (post-budget approval) and June/July/August is a deluge. Bon chance!!!
czacza - no we don't, we are only NY state certified. I believe we can be hired with out of state certification and have a year or two to get certified in CT. serenity74 - thank you!!
You will definitely need to get your CT certification before getting hired. I have left CT a couple of times now and moved to another state/ country because of the lack of jobs there. And I had been looking while holding a state certification. I'd start applying for certification now.
The NY/NJ/CT market is tight. You will be competition with experienced teachers who hold current CT certification. You should get your paperwork started now.
I know for a fact that you need to put in for a CT certification. I just did it in November. It is a VERY long process and I started it in June and it finally got approved in November. No school will call you if you do not hold a CT certification. I live in CT right now and looking for a public/private charter magnent any type of job. I also hold a NY professional certification and applied last year and no one in CT called me until they saw I have my CT. Good Luck!
I don't know about CT. However even if a school can hire someone who has an outer state license they likely will not. Like several others have stated the job market isn't very good for teachers. If I was the principal and I had 50 applications in front of me I would not choose someone who wasn't certified in my state. What if that person fails to obtain state certification within the year. You just lost a teacher you put a year into. I'm in an area that would likely hire you with an outer state certification. Qualified math teachers are hard to find here because of the low pay but most of CT is very desirable for teachers. If I could get a job there I would be out of here in a N.Y. minute.
