I even called them and asked if they're ever issued early and they said "no," so don't bother obsessively checking like I have been. It will just be a LONG week!

No, they certainly don't issue before the day specified.

Thanks so much. I couldn't remember how long it took last time, but knew it would be pretty soon. Now I can let it go until next Sunday, when I start to stress again, LOL!

The site says that scores aren't released until after 5pm PST but I had mine by the late morning for the last test. Fingers crossed for us all!!!

    (chuckling)

If you ran NES, wouldn't you avoid promising scores any time before the close of business?

Excellent point: to forestall "over-promising and under-delivering", and have irate fellows screaming "Bloody Murder!" over the phone...

And yes, quite a few candidates have confessed to receiving their email results around noon-time.

I will have chocolate on hand in case things aren't what I hope they are. Then again, if it comes to that there's always next time. :D

ACtually, I'm kind of annoyed. The last two times I took the test, I got my scores and that was the last week for signing up. This time, the deadline was yesterday and I didn't even notice. So I'll have to sign up late if I want to take the English tests in September.

If it's any consolation, the test fees and late fees have been reduced a little from last year...

Warning to all concerned, by the way: the next test date is November 3, which is rather less than the standard two months from the preceding test: all the deadlines will be correspondingly earlier.

I think it depends on the test and where you're taking it. The English subtests that I will have to retake if I don't pass, are September 15th, and there is NO late fee, even though it will be after the deadline. I called yesterday just to confirm. Good luck everyone!

No, what I mean is what I think Cal meant: the deadline dates tend to sneak up on one, and for the November test they will be more than usually sneaky because the whole sequence is happening more than usually early in the month.

As to the late fees, they're automatically waived for people retaking subtests and signing up on receipt of the non-passing score. Which is why I keep telling people not to sign up "just in case".

"As to the late fees, they're automatically waived for people retaking subtests and signing up on receipt of the non-passing score."

I signed up to retake the two failed tests, and the fee wasn't waived. Do I get a refund?

It's not just that the deadline sneaks up. In the last two cases, the deadline was *after* the scores were issued. I just assumed that was always the case.

The deadline has generally been before the scores are issued; that's why the waiver policy is in place. You're the first person I've heard of who didn't get the late fee waived. How long after receipt of the scores did you sign up?

You have to sign up for the next test date to get the last fee waved, and you have to sign up before the late registration period ends and the emergency registration period begins.

Otherwise stated, you will pay the late fee if you register late and have a gap in the test dates. Example: took the July test, are skipping September, and taking the November.
You will have to pay the fee if you register during the emergency period.

If you register online, I'm fairly sure the late fee is rescinded at the time of payment. So, you aren't sent a refund by mail. You know right away the fee is waived and are not charged for it. You see the total charges do not include a late fee when you accept the payment amount for your credit/debit card (Sorry, I should edit that, but I'm in a hurry. My apologies.).

    Today is the day!

Be not afraid my comrades! Take heart in your successes and do not let your failure (if any) discourage you.

Today to wait out the time so that I'm not at my email frantically clicking inbox I decided to go to the beach for a walk and after that to the grocery store to pick up all the ingredients for a cheesecake.

Ah, physical education and applied chemistry: fine correctives for metus notarum probationis magistrorum, which is a Latinism I just made up for 'anxiety about teacher test scores'.

My sympathies, teach101. That's very close, though. When your official score report arrives, take a look at side 2 for some information that can help you pass next time.

    Science Subtest I

    Hi TG,
:D :D I passed. I feel like a kid. I am preparing for the second subtest. This news is so encouraging. Thanks for all the help everyone. OOO, what a relief! I didn't find the score online though!

Emma1, you won't find the score online, nor in your official score report, if you pass: it'll just say "PASSED".

Actual numerical scores for passers aren't reported to you nor to institutions that get score reports nor, as nearly as I can tell, to God Almighty - the intent of the CCTC is that passing scores will not be used in hiring decisions.

Go celebrate YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENT, please. (Though I dunno why I'm insisting on that here: single subject test takers, especially in the sciences, are generally much better about taking credit for passing rather than attributing it solely to luck.)

I can't believe it. I passed English subtest I, II III! I seriously cannot believe it because I really felt like I was guessing my way through 80% of I. BUT I did not pass IV - got a 193! :( I am really shocked because I thought that section was really easy and I majored in film and I teach speech. I didn't study for that section because I thought I knew the material enough as it is. I still cannot believe I passed the other sections which I thought were so hard. So I am doubly shocked. Now, I have to register for IV again and get some real study materials for that! Thank you everyone for all your wonderful help and encouragement. :) I seriously cannot believe that I am one subtest away from getting an English credential! Yay! This adds to my multiple subject credential and makes me feel so much more confident as a teacher.

jennyscout, could be that you ran out of steam by the time you got to Subtest IV. Or it could be that you relaxed a little more than was quite called for - there's something similar with CBEST, in that the essay section trips up people who aren't very good writers AND people who are.

Be sure to read side 2 of your official score report when it arrives later this week: the diagnostic information there will help you prepare.

In the meantime, please celebrate your accomplishment on Subtests I through III!

There's a list of drama terms among the goodies in the "elmer's English resources" sticky thread, and there are some fine Web sites for media studies/journalism in the sticky thread on useful Web resources for single subject English/history. In addition, if you rummage among the old threads, you'll find other resources.

Congrats you two on the Social Science passing! I was talking to another intern type the other day who said it was thought to be the hardest of the CSETs ... I mean there isn't much to it or anything... you just have to remember EVERYTHING that has ever happened anywhere in the world since the beginning of history, LOL!

Great job! I hope you're able to enjoy your victory more than I am ... I came home from school and plopped into a dark room with a migraine I had to work thru all day...

Oh, roberts, I'm sorry about the migraine. Please celebrate when you can.

I think CSET Math's the hardest, or at any rate the least easy to navigate primarily on good test taking smarts.

Congratulations to everyone who passed! Way to go! Oh yeah, all right, woo-hoo! :2up:

I wasn't working today, or so I thought, but then I got called in late for a substitute teaching job. I actually forgot about CSET results today! Ha. I just got back and saw the email. I thought it was a link to the site to see my score, but there it was, right in front of me. It's Unofficial! I passed CSET Math subtest 1! How do you spell relief? No "poor baby" in Italian or whatever for me!

Thank you to all on this forum, especially TeacherGroupie and Jay (innovation guy). You've been a great help.

Well, no celebrating now because I'm getting ready for some classes at the community college tonight. A new program started in Jan. called Process Technology. It's only 8 courses and then you are qualified for high paying jobs at refineries or Dow Chemical, etc. ($45k/65K entry level pay; $100k or more after 5 years). I figure, what the heck. It is the only program in Northern CA, and it is getting a lot of attention. So, tuition for our Spring classes was refunded (nice surprise), as will be tuition for the rest of the program. Since I have a BS, I already have the Chemistry, higher math, and Physics prerequisites finished. I'm covering my bases and opening options. Choices I'm planning for: multiple subjects teacher, math teacher, COBOL programmer again, Process Technician, or finally figuring out how to make money online. Something will work. I'm tired of being broke. If only I knew what I want to be when I grow up. :p

Congrats everyone! And Jazz, the new job prospect sounds great!
    Keep your options open.

I was wondering - has anyone had CSET regrade their essays for the English CSET? Will they even do that? I really think my Subtest 4 essays were pretty strong. In fact, that was the only section I thought I nailed coming out of the test, even though I did rush them. Maybe I wrote too much? So anyways, just wondering if anyone ever got a regrade?

    Thanks.

Nix that. I just read the CSET site. It costs $50 for a score verification. Might as well just take it again. I just ordered the Orange County materials for Sub 4.
