I teach 5th grade and I have decided to have a time period of about 5 minutes at the start of the day where I will play some sort of music and the kiddos will be getting ready for the day. They may be getting their homework out, choosing a DEAR book, organizing... I am trying to think of a good name for this time. Something that incorporates the fact that there will be music playing and that they will be organizing or getting ready for their day. So...if you have any thoughts, I would love to hear them!!

I'm going to be teaching 5th grade for the first time this year. I usually play music after lunch/PE time to calm them down but playing it at the beginning of the day sounds like a good idea. What kind of music are you thinking of playing? Sorry I don't have a good name for you.

ysalazar~ I just figured I'd play different stuff each day. I have some kids' songs cd's, instrumental cd's, etc... I thought playing music might be a good idea for two reasons: I thought they'd like the music, and when it stops, their time's up!
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

Think about the soundtrack to Fantasia. It's beautiful and calming. for "new age", try John Tesh. It's all instrumental and some is reallyl catchy!

Sorry, no creative juices at the moment!

perhaps something with the musical term prelude? or...
    "Ready Rock?"
"Orchestral Organizing?" or "Operatic Organization"
    "Symphony Starter?" or "Symphonic Starter?"
    "Choral Commencement?"
    "Classroom Conducting?"
    :p

One of my colleagues uses time at the end of the day that she calls "Focus Time"... I think it could certainly be used for the morning also.
