Hi everyone, I am currently assisting in a classroom for an undergraduate class, and will begin student teaching next year. I am now looking up a lot of articles on education and researching classroom resource. This is required for some of my classes, but I am also doing a lot of this on my free time. I am planning on creating a binder that includes print outs, tips, articles, etc as an all over resource for when I begin teaching. Any suggestions on sections that I should include? Some include: Classroom Management, Tabs for various subjects that include lesson plans and general ideas, Holiday Fun, Multi-Culturalism, Forms... Thank you in advance!
Cool! I'd add incorporating technology and subject specific pedagogy- teaching science for instance. Sometimes a list of hyperlinks with a brief summary is as effective as extensive printouts, to me at least.
I have the same thing! I just print whatever looks cool and useful to me! Another thing I would recommend is bookmarking the best websites you come across.
I had to do this for a class last year, and for my Reading in the Content Areas class we got sooo much stuff from her that she asked us to organize it for a grade at the end. This was my table of contents (I'm English 7-12) A: Articles Assessments B: Beyond the Blueprint Booktalk Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy Blogs C: CT dept of Education Content Area Material Certification Information D: E: Explications Elements of Literary Style F: G: Graphic Organizers Grammar and Writing H: I: Interdisciplinary Interest Surveys- reading, other Instructional Strategies- research based J: Jack London- To Build a Fire K: L: Learning Styles Literature Circles M: Magazines Multiple Intelligences Marzano’s Strategies N: Nothing But The Truth O: P: Portfolios Planning Tools Posters Point of View Poetry Q: QAR- question answer relationships R: Reading- Tovani Readability Formulas Reading bookmarks, notes Reading Resources Reading Next S: SEDL Strategies T: Textbook Evaluation Text Structure Text Organizers Technology Integration Thesis Handout U: Unit Planning and Maps W: Websites Workshops- professional Workshops- instructional Folders: RTI- response to intervention Transparencies Stickers Bookmarks CAPT flipchart Binder: Personal Work
you may want to include a section with real samples of classroom rules & newsletters, parent notes, etc. so you have some inspiration when you've got your own class.
How about a section on all the classes you have taken? In or out of school? Maybe a section on differentiation?
I don't have anything to add to the discussion, but I wanted to say that I love this idea. I wish that I would have done this when I was student teaching. It would have been super helpful.
Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions! I will take them all into consideration as I create my binder. Glad to hear that some of you did a similar project and that it was useful for you.
I would recommend doing it digitally. It's much easier to find things, easier to alter and takes up no additional space. Good luck with your project. There are a lot of great resources out there!
